Walking back into the team

I have seen so many people comment on Herrera walking back into team.

...............

I have not seen one that suggests walking.

Walking in the sense that Fellini deserves dropped on the basic premise that Herrera is better. I simply don't think it's that sinple

How the team should set up:

DDG
4 players who aren't injured
Carrick
Fellaini Herrera
Mata
Rooney Falcao

Herrera offers much more to the team than Fellaini, but Fellaini does deserve his place, but before the injury, Herrera would be one of the if not the) first name on the team sheet.

I think most people want Fellaini to fail, much like I do with Ashley Young.

No matter what he does, he'll always be the £30m player, Moyes shouldn't have signed.

I mean whilst ADM is injured

LVG dropping RVP after he's scored? Can't see it.

Its that simple actually, Herrera is our best CM, he should walk in to the team when he is fully fit. Have you ever seen xavi, bastian, pirlo etc siting on bench after recovering from an injury because their replacements played well while they were out?

Best players should play ahead of squad players, Rojo walked into the team even though Mcnair played well in his absence but I havent seen many people make a fuss about it

I think LVG has given all the players there chance. Nobody can feel hard done by at the moment. Would Fellaini really expect to get in ahead of Herrera after the performance many said Herrera put in?

Fellini made some interesting films but I can can see why he was dropped from centre mid - he is dead after all. Felliani is an effective if dirty midfielder who strongly resembles a human bog brush. He does a job tho.

I think we can all agree that it's gradually becoming selection-headache time for LVG (which is the sort of problem most experienced managers will relish).

This is where great managers with big personalities earn their dough.

This Fellaini v Herrera yawnathon will go on for a long time, I feel.

We currently don't have anyone claiming the RW slot, so I imagine the diamond will be out, and both Herrera and Fellaini will play alot of games.

What about Herrera's confidence if he drops back to the bench after. Motm display?

Herrera should be starting now whether fellaini plays or not

If you play your strongest team and they're all available Herrera and Di Maria would be guaranteed starters for me. Then choose between Carrick and Blind, then look at maybe Mata or Januzaj if you want to freshen things up, then Fellaini for an impact sub or if you've got an injury list like were have at the moment.

It's good to have options . I might be wrong about Fellaini and I hope I am because all I'm really bothered about is United winning in style, not who makes us win in style.

I agree with what you're saying Op, it is not nice but it is the world we live. Herrera is our best midfielder and should play when fully fit. Whether fella should be dropped to the bench after doing nothing wrong over the past few games is another matter. Should Mata, Blind and Carrick start ahead of him? I don't know. Juan Mata has to earn his wages at this club and start putting performances which justifies paying well over 30 million quid.

Scholay

Mata was better than fellaini at the weekend

I'm not convinced it's the right comparison anyway. With everyone fit, I would have thought it would be herrera or mata.

Didnt herrerra walk back into the team but was subbed due to a terrible performance?

Am sure fellaini got his chance as he came on and did better and has done since.

Better individual doesnt mean better for the team. Rvp is better than welbeck but welbeck and rooney was often better

Herrera's a bit more physical than Mata, Melts. He can actually put himself about a bit, they're not really that similar. Mata does all his best work just behind the strikers and can run though them, I think Herrera's going to make us tick from a bit deeper.

Terrible performance due to being rushed back from injury. Herrera is the best we have and he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of.

Scholay- i accept that mate and i said it was too soon before the game. But fellaini has added something that wasnt there. May just be the extra ariel threat or something

I agree herrera is better player, may just need adjustment time and we cant give it due to a poor start etc

He could post, particularly against teams like hull where you will have most of the ball and can be attacking. I'm just not sure against the better teams, I would play herrera but push him up and play two midfielders behind.

You do have very good options in midfield now, it's all about getting the balance right depending on the opponent now.

Don't forget that Herrera only got his chance because Di Maria got injured on Saturday, so it was more by chance than anything else that he got a lot of game time. At the moment, it seems in LVG's eyes that Fellaini is always a starter. However, with both Blind and Di Maria out, it would seem that we will start tomorrow's game with Carrick, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Rooney and RVP, and you would really expect them to produce at home against Stoke.

Of course LVG may want to freshen things up and give either Januzaj or Young a start, and no doubt that Falcao will get some game time also. But these are nice problems to have.

Fair point Melts, you're much more of a student of the game than I'll ever be! I just like a high tempo and a bit of excitement for my money.

posted on 1/12/14

OP.... Would you let Di Maria walk back into the team if, say, Carrick, Herrera, Fellaini and Valencia put a decent couple of performances in?

posted on 1/12/14

Post,

I may be a student but I'm not a very good one!

It's the United way to play with high tempo, I'm not surprised you want that. High scoring games, absolutely go for it!
