BBC F1 co-commentator David Coulthard is rendered speechless after getting the chance to drive a 2014 Williams at Silverstone.
First off Coulthard gets to drive Keke Rosberg's 1982 Williams while current driver Valtteri Bottas steps in to Damon Hill's 1996 title winning car.
Former Williams driver Coulthard says the power is amazing in the new car and describes the experience as being like a "magic carpet ride".
Yeah I saw that and thought his comments were eye opening. I was surprised at the power comment as I thought the older cars had more brute force. Maybe its just the way the power is delivered by that Merc unit and the Turbo.
He also spoke about how complicated new cars are and all the things drivers have to do whilst driving. Something some people here should take note of.....
Even a grandpa can drive these cars. What are you on about

Even a grandpa can drive these cars. What are you on about
----------------------------------------------------------------------
thinking completely logically how hard can the current cars be to drive when a 17 yr old spotty kid has a contract to drive one -
something that was absolutely unheard of until these current cars came along
So you think age is dependent on ability? You are afunny chap.
Think you need to do some research into motorsport and about how people lied to get licences. I would also suggest you put a name into wiki; Alex barros

yeh i do think age was a factor -
in previous yrs in previous cars 17 would have been far to young and far to inexperienced
----------- however with the ease of the modern cars and the coaching inside the car ,
------------------ not any more
Age and ability are not directly proportional. I could just as well say there were no talented 17 year olds then.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
so in the history of F1 since 1950 ---- 64 yrs ago there have been no talented 17 yr old drivers up until 2014 -
--------------------------- interesting
That's what the evidence supports martial. After all, if they were, there would have been one.
Have you wiki'd the name I gave you?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
incredible ---- in F1 history of 64 yrs there has been no talented 17 yr old drivers even though every F1 driver that has ever been was driving in some kind of racing series around the world when they were 17 yrs old
----------------- really incredible that
One could almost look at the ages of drivers over the past decade and see a trend.
