Don't care as long as Falcao and Rafael start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if they dont start you wont care ?
o............k.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
let me clarify, I don't care much what the rest of the line up is apart from those two, not that I don't care about the match. The rest of the line up pretty much picks itself since shaw and ADM are injured.
"Does Falcao deserve to start?"
He certainly does deserve to start more than RVP. Maybe if Falcao is given 90 minutes after 90 minutes of doing nothing whatsoever, we can revisit the question brvause that's what RVP has been given, not 10 minutes here and there
We can't afford to take the chance with Falcao against Saints away. It's a tough game and we need to win to take advantage of all the points dropped by rivals this weekend.
Falcao can have his chance over the christmas period when we have some easier games and lots of them in a short space of time.
I would argue that we can't do any worse with Falcao than RVP. Starting him would not be taking a chance because LVG is cautious almost to a fault in terms od nursing players back into a squad. He could play 90 minutes and if he showed the same endeavour that RVP shows he could play 9000 minutes without breaking a sweat
Why cant we take the risk? Not like RvP is in the form of his life.

He's a top striker and sometimes they go through bad spells. You have to keep faith with them. Yes, Falcao is also a top striker but is a few levels behind RVP in terms of sharpness and fitness.
Falcao will get his chance but RVP deserves it slightly more. Remember, a week ago he scored a top class goal. That will surely spur him on in a big game like this.
I don't think it is a bad spell its been going on way to long. I don't know if he's playing with an injury or what but he looks a shadow of the player he was 2 years ago.
Yes he scored a decent goal a couple of games ago and then he had yet another anonymous game against Stoke.
Believe me, I know just how big tomorrow and next Sunday are. If we win both games, we'll be very very hard to catch in terms of top 4. And with that in mind, I would still prefer Falcao to RVP without hesitation

Lets act like he was not playing from the start at the beginning of the season where RVP outscored him... easily. Starting someone who has looked just as average if not more than RvP himself just because "you do not want him to start" is a joke really. He has not shown one thing that says he is better than RvP at the moment. Not one. Considering how poor RvP has been just what does that say about Falcao?

Rafael for Valencia if fit.
Even though Young has been decent at LB, I wouldn't take the risk against Southampton. They're usually quite good attacking from the right side.
if Rafa isn't fit I would maybe be tempted to play Young at RB rather than Valencia.
Shaw will be gagging to play against his former club, Whether he is fit enough is another matter. Thjat being said I'll carry on with Young. Clyne has been on goof attacking form and is Young plays like he did against Stoke he will can keep him pinned back better that Shaw can.
As for the Falcao RVP debate. Falcao has played very little compared to RVP this season but in the few minutes he has played he has shown mo0re urgency, strength determination and link up play with the other players than RVP has. If Falcao gets into 5th gear he will out shine Agureo and Costa in the second half of the season. Athletico have had many top strikers come through their squad over the last 10 years and Falcao is regarded as the best of the bunch. He made a mistake going to Monaco, whether that was down to him or Athletico cashing in is another debate but no doubt I would rather risk Falcao over the next few games if only to get him up to speed and firing on all cylinders by the Enid of the month.

I agree with your comment about Falcao. If we can get him fit and playing anywhere near the level he was at in Spain i think we could have a real shot at the title. He was that good.
Falcao WAS very good in Spain but that was 2 years ago. Also when RVP was World Class as well. The past doesn't really count for a lot when there are real issues about fitness and you need to be 100% fit and sharp for the PL.
IMO neither of them are the answer but at this very moment in time RVP has to shade it. He has goals this season. He's not a complete waste.
Neither Falcao or RVP necessarily 'deserve' to start. Falcao has had far less game time though.
Rooney is our only strike who has been playing well. I'd play Wilson in attack with him.
The other factor is that it is probably more beneifcial to us if Falcao finds form than if RVP does, since Rooney and RVP have never formed a great partnership together anyway.

Falcao when he's played has looked 10x better than RvP. He actually bothers to make runs, his link up play is much better and he can actually hold up the ball. It was never going to be easy for him to return to normal after that injury last season but he needs games.

Disagree. Falcao has looked good in some aspects but also has looked poor when shooting at goal and has miscontrolled some very easy balls. He is a quality player but is in the paradox of needing game time to sharpen up but isn't sharp enough to start yet.
I'm sure LVG will see 4 games in 10 days over Christmas as the time to give Falcao plenty of game time. For now though you have to go with the fully match fit player. And LVG will.

Regardless in the lengthy time Falcao has been out RVP has contributed nothing. There really isn't any justification for his continued selection. None whatsoever. Unless you want to make up stats about hoe great he's been again???
Just because RvP is 100% match fit shouldn't mean he is guaranteed to start. He was match fit against Arsenal and put in one of the worst performances from him ive ever seen, it was an embarrassment.

The difference is that RVP has dipped because of age and because he is entering the twilight of his career. Falcao first moved to a team where he never belonged and then got a very serious injury. Injuries like that take time to fully recover from because you can not use the knee in the same way. You have to adapt the way you run and balance having done it a completely different way for 20 odd years of your like. The differences are ever so slight but it normally take 10-12moinths to fully adapt.
Have a feeling LVG will try and shoehorn all our main forwards into the team again, at the expense of Mata.
