Spearing - 5

Otherwise bang on. Maybe Carroll - 6 as he did do what strikers are supposed to do.

Henderson was bloody awful....beginning to regret him signing!

Spearing didn't really do anything wrong though, he just kept the ball moving on all night.

Carroll's a tricky one, sometimes he held the ball up well but he should be dominating the centre backs in these sorts of games and I was very disappointed with his work rate. Even the goal came from a lucky break.

The thing with Spearing is he does what millions of very average footballers around the country could do, which is simply pass it sideways or backwards.
I think he only pushed on a pass forward once, he really doesn't know how to create an attack from deep what-so-ever.

Carroll confuses me, hes talented but soo static and makes players play it long. Hendo is like "Oops i am at a massive club"..panic,panic and poor old Jay for me is behind Shelvey.

His job is to break up play and move the ball on. The role Lucas usually plays. It's not surprising that when somebody else plays this role he also gets slated. People just can't seem to grasp the defensive midfield role.

All players can't attack, do backflips and cartwheels past people and put the ball in the net. A team needs different types of players.

I though Henderson did well. He was very determined and showed more fight than he has in previous games. For me, he looks much more dangerous in the middle.

You have also rated Suarez too high, I don't think he was worth a 9 and certainly has had better games.

For me WIlson was great today and I was very happy to see it after a few not so great performances when called upon last year.

I was also happy with Maxi, chipping in with yet another goal.

carroll did alright. headed the ball down well, got a goal, couldnt do much else really, maybe hit that sitter but he expected the defender to have it covered. henderson showed a lot of fight, still getting used to the style of play i think, such as when carroll had a go for waiting to long. didnt deserve the yellow he was caught even if he looked for it, so a mistake from both players. he should play central, wasted wide, he can see all about him but is limited out wide.

I can , I play it myself and I can do a lot more than Spearing seems able to do. Spearing is very average at what he does, plenty better options around.

Um Aquilonso, if you can do more than Spearing can who do you play for then?

Interesting. Why is Spearing playing for Liverpool and you aren't?

There are plenty of would-be footballers who don't get the chances some pretty average footballers get, but that is besides the point.

I get the impression you are a big advocate of the worker engine type players from your posts, which is all well and good if you want a mid table team, but when you want to be around the top you really need players who can do more than just the basics, and Spearing is really not one of them.

Someone like Kuyt for example is know for his work ethic but he can also bring a lot more to the table. Lucas is slowly starting to show this, although he is never going to surpass the likes of Mascherano. Spearing though clearly doesn't have it.

lol one is one of the best tackling defensive midfielders in the world who reads the game immensely, whilst the other just has the name Spearing.

good to see Wilson get run would like to see him as holding mid. Spearing, when you have a player as small as him he has to have
exceptional talent , which he does not,let him go to Tranmere,Shelvey will never be good enough,Wilson should start before him every time.

shelvey is more of an attacking midfielder...wilson is an out and out centre half. also, just because he is good with the ball at his feet it doesnt mean he can play as a holding midfielder

mascherano is just name brand, when you actually scrutinize his ability you will see that there is not much difference from him and jay spearing, he cant pass or get foward all he can do is break up play and tackle ... just like jay spearing

I would score Pepe an 8 for that fame.

Reina - 7 comfortable

Flanagan - 3 another shaky game
Robinson - 6 disciplined
Skrtel - 5 typical skrtel re pen
Wilson - 5 nothing special, still raw

Henderson - 5 made himself available but lacking confidence
Adam - 7 looks very comfortable and assured
Spearing - 4 not good enough
Meireles - 6
Maxi - 6 drifted in and out

Suarez - 9 sheer class

Subs:
Carroll - 6 well taken goal - needs more confidence & fitness
Downing - 7 posed a real threat immediately
Shelvey - 6 assured

I'm sorry but that's balls, Mascherano is the best tackler the Premier League saw since Makelele. I doubt Spearing could keep Ronaldo in his pocket the way Masch used to.
