Weird that you mention bacca. I was thinking when we went down the Balotelli route he would have been a better option was also thinking Slimani too.
Basically a striker that fights and makes positive runs who would have been sub 15 million.
As for Markovic I genuinely feel we have a diamond in the rough, he has hardly played and when he has he has been lively. Consistency is what we are missing and I think that is because BR isnt sure on his ideal first 11.
The ideal 1st 11 has been made worse by the loss of sturridge as the entire way we play has had to be abandoned.
Would markovic have done well last year? I think the answer is yes.
I dont understand this markovich love in. He was nkt even that vreat for benfica as his stats showed and has done absoluletly nothing to show whh we spent 20 mil on him. We spent 20 mil on a so called rough diamond which in my humble opinion is rkdiculous when we already have two rough diamonds in ibe and suso. suso in my opinion is much better than markovic but will never get a game ahead of him as he did not cost us 20 mil.
Markovic has speed and strength that Suso will never have.
Hopefully Ibe will fulfill his massive potential but Lazar is much further developed and I completely agree with DDFP in that I think he's a diamond.
For 15 mins on Tues I thought, "My God, Markovic might actually be a player after all!" - Right up until he decided to give spirit-fingers and get his ass sent off.
I think Markovic was one of the first signings we made soon after selling Luis. That heaped immediate pressure on the kid as we misssd out on Sanchez and he was viewed as the next replacement. I think towards the end of the season and EL we will see the potential
Tuesday was the first time Markovic has done anything at all.
He has either been ok or invisible in his previous appearances.
It remains to be seen whether that 10 minute spark of a sign of things to come or a flash in the pan remains to be seen.
So far at the club he reminds me of Downing.
He probably did more in that 10 mins than Allen has done all season. The weak link is Allen but Rodgers refuses to drop him.
You change the weak link on a daily basis.
Markovic has big potential.
Anybody that watched even for a couple of games for Benfica would've seen that. Step-overs, nutmegs, insane ball control while dribbling at pace.
I'll admit that the end product was lacking even at Benfica...but if we can polish him to get him producing..we'll have a player on our hands.
And for 10-15m more Arsenal got Sanchez....a highly polished diamond.
People say he wanted London.....Arsenal could offer more money. But why not just sign him and not Markowho and Mario, the combined fee and wages would have been more than enough.
He is the new Borini

Come on guys, i'm sure that it's more than just London, as to why he came to us.
Maybe it's because we have a better stadium, better (more renound) manager, better squad, virtually guaranteed CL football every year......and the location too.
I'd have Kono in a heart beat myself and I'm almost certain that Ibe would have produced as much as Markovic has this season. Ibe does commit people and he has cajones. You know the lad is going to attack and get his shot off but maybe Brendan wanted him to develop out of the lime light a bit and he's in a good place at Derby.
Kono though is positive and seasoned. He has shown in his games against England that he can handle the pressure of being a main man on a big stage and still produce.
The Remy one is difficult. If he had bizzle in his system then they're not going to sign him but Chelsea love coke heads so he's probably in the right place.
I'd love to get Kono and Cabaye in January. I know it's not the striker we need but maybe we'll have Balo (who for some reason I still harbour hopes for) and Studge back by then and those two would add sorely needed goals from midfield that Allen never will.
Don't get this "what has markovich done" rubbish.
Most of the same people are creaming over getting Origi back, yet marko has a far better scoring rate. And without penalties.
He has been a key member of two title winning squads so far, the lad has bags of talent.
As for ibe, he's in a great place, and has bagged four goals so far for Derby, needs to stay where he is, and if they get promoted, even go back next season.

No idea why people are excited about Origi, he made Tony Hibbert look like a top class RB
Interesting bump considering the weekends events paisley
