Is this a joke?
Bobby Charlton isnt listed.
He is my friend as a forward - I'll be posting another list later
but he played in midfield!
Roy Keane was overrated. Sorry to say this but he had a lot of world class players around him during his time at Man United.
Keane was a thug that got lucky in an era when United had top draw personnel all over the pitch.

check manutd.com, that is where the list comes from. Besides an inside forward is midfielder / forward (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inside_forward)
watch his BBC programme recently.. even he states and explains how he played in midfield.
Denis Law was United's CF during the 60s.
In 1966 WC Bobby was CM with Hurst and Hunt up front. (and Jimmy Greaves)
Ronaldo
Robson
Edwards
Best
I'm pretty sure Charlton was a centre mid, (being 22 I can't claim to be an authority on it though).
I would have him in, but playing by your rules;
RW. Best
CM. Scholes
CM. Robson
LW. Giggs
All ;
don't shoot the messenger, man utd website have listed sir bobby as a forward. If you want to cast a vote on the website it can only be done via the forwards category, their rules not mine.
Duncan Edwards
Bryan Robson
Paul Scholes
George Best
Ronaldo
Robson
Charlton
Best
Berry
Edwards
Charlton (if he's a CF I'd go with Robson)
Best

he played midfield in todays terms
then he was shifted to the wing until a certain george best came along which allowed him to go back to the middle
However
The general formations back then were 2 3 5 and Sir Bobby was in the 5 so, although he really did play in midfield, back then he would have been considered a forward player whereas today, it would be midfield
Confusing I know
Nobby Stiles was really a centre back and not a midfielder but back then, it probably was classed as the midfield
Strange but true
The thing about making Sir Bobby a forward and Nobby Stiles a midfielder in the categoties will confuse the choices because we are talking todays formation of a 442 and Nobby wouldn't be in the midfield in a 442 and Sir Bobby wouldn't be a forward in a 442
Bobby was an attaking central midfield playmaker.
Alan Mullery said that Sir Alf said to him, the ONLY thing I require you to do is to is win the ball and give it to Bobby Charlton.
To make him an honorary member of the Srtikers Union for the sake of this poll is pointless and meaningless.

Have to agree
Same goes with Nobby as an honoury midfielder although back then, he was considered as a defensive midfielder because there really wasn't any such thing as a centre back
As I remember it, the only positions regarded as defenders were RB and LB
It was the old Left and Right Half positions in the W M formation.
Duncan Edwards was a Left Half. But in today's game he would be a bit like Phil Jones (sorry, that's the last time I shall ever compare Jones with Edwards), ie a Centre Half come DM player (Like Ronnie Johnson was too).
So you could put him in defence or midfield.
My all time defence in a 442 would then be:
Schmeichel
GNev, MCGrath, Edwards, Evra
Midfield:
Ronaldo, Robson, Charlton, Best
Forward:
Eric, Law
1. Goalkeeeper
2. Right full back
3. Left full back
4. Right half
5. Centre half
6. Left half
7. Right winger
8. Inside right
9. Centre Forward
10. Inside left
11. Left winger
The old timers here will remember these were the positions in the 235 system
For the sake of the official pole
I'll go with
Edwards
Robbo
Best
Ronaldo

Or up front
he scored 6 for England one time playing up front
or in goal from what I have heard of him!
Ronaldo Robson Scholes Best
Best Edwards Scholes Giggs
I can't believe how many people have left Giggs out and had ronaldo in its a disgrace
Because Ronaldo is a far superior player to Giggs?
