playing out of the back

It's not as if some of them were under pressure making these passes, just basic schoolboy stuff like looking before you attempt the pass

The problem with the defence is complicated. It's not down to just one reason.

Injuries clearly aren't helping. Our first choice back 4 (arguably) all out today. 12 CB combo's before xmas must be some kind of record.

The midfield didn't get shielded that well today. Fellaini improved in 2nd half but I thought he was utterly dreadful in first half. And Rooney isn't exactly going to shield a back 4.

Movement infront of defence is sometimes really slow and sometimes nonexistent. That doesn't help either.

And finally.......We're missing Daley Blind for me. Even though results hae picked up without him, I think he's already become vital to the way we play. Can't wait till he's back in a few weeks.

I agree, if you rewatch on MUTV tonight and focus on the defenders, there were no individually bad performances.

We are still getting used to 1) 3-5-2 and 2) Trying to play out from the back .

Couple those two things with our ever changing defensive line up and it is clear that we will still find it tough.

The match thread gang, for the most part, will focus on individual mistakes and reenforce them over the week... Giving the consensus that players like evans or jones had a bad game, but they really didn't.

Problem with defence is
1)No protection from cm's
2)Defenders are not used to our setup of back 3
3)Injuries disrupting form and partnerships
4)No outstanding cb, all are decent tho

JSP, That's the way I see it too.

Stretty, Fellaini scared the hell outta me in the 1st half too. Was better in the 2nd.

LVG has got them playing out from the back which is a good thing however our defenders simply aren't good enough on the ball. Bar carrick all the others look like headless chickens in possession. Especially evans who I thought was poor today. Fellaini with his short sideway passes are really going to cost us. It already has done once at Southampton and he did it again today

we need to stop this back 5 malarkey. We have yet again conceded so many chances and don't look particularly solid so what is the point?
playing 442 diamond with carrick in front of the back 4 is what we should be doing.

Most of Liverpool's chances were actually from our trying to play from the back and getting it wrong. Reason I find Rodger's comment that they did enough to win quite laughable.

Hopefully a settled back will improve this flaw for us.

Evan's considers a simply and intelligent pass out from the back as a hoof to the apposing keeper.

It's a simple case of choosing the right time to play it out from the back - sometimes you just need to hoof it into row z. You only need to look at how Swansea conceded late against Spurs to see what can go wrong if you try to be too clever from the back.

We are simple giving up too many chances at the moment, a mixture of not enough protection in front of the defence and the defence not being used to playing with each other.

I don't think there has been a game where we haven't looked particularly vulnerable at the back, yes we have rode our luck at times in recent games and it may be that in a furture match we get caught out and concede a couple of goals. De Gea is of course playing out of his skin to assist us, but as the game progresses we seem to improve.

Some fringe/squad players have really stepped up to the mark and put in good performances and there's undeniably a great belief and spirit within the squad.

There's a long way to go, but we can all see the progress being made, and if we can just get a more settled starting 11, better performances will surely come. In the meantime, winning 3-0 against an albeit weak Liverpool side when we are not at our best is encouraging in itself.

It helps when you have a midfielder like Herrera who can take the ball forward and out of trouble. When the ball goes to fellaini his only option is to pass within his first or second touch, he's so slow.

Mata and Fellaini in c/m make it to easy to get at the back 4/5. United got away with a few today but, when under the cosh Mata is non-existent in the centre,at least Fellaini wins a few tackles and headers.

What's a match thread gang?
If you know what's said on them, that arguably makes you more pathetic, deliberately watching the game AND the match thread knowing full well all you're doing is taking in everything everyone is saying and then a few hours later post ' I'm houlier than thou match thread gang w4nkaahs'

I comment at half time or during breaks in play.... It is easy enough to see who is the pan to villain for the day with a quick glance.

Anyone typing during play isnt paying full attention... Sorry if that makes me "holier than thou"
