Can't be bothered to go into the text with you. However, those passages refer to a battle, that dictates that if the non-believers (romans) attack you, you are to return attack until they stop and if they stop, make peace. But you have to read the context to know that. Anyone can take it out of context. It was during a battle that passages refers to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but why is it non believers? Why can't other Muslims be attacked?
It's not a cop out. I assume you believe religion is a man made thing. Then does that not defeat your argument? A man made thing? So it's man who has made these books etc so the issue surly has to be man does it not? Or do you believe this books come from a higher power? The central issue is man. It's clear, proven over and over again.
----------------------------------------------------
I'm not trying to suggest that "man" is not blame. Of course man is. But if "man" is killing in the name of his man-made religion, then religion is the reason. It's like a motive for murder.

It's no more offensive than Christianity. The difference is that many who follow Islam take their teachings too literally. If Christians didn't cherry pick and went along with everything the bible said, this world would be a much more dangerous place.
It is never right to kill even one child to save a million.

I'd kill 100'000 children if it meant saving 1'000'000... But then I'm logical and rational.

They are simply reading the text and acting it out, there are sections of the Quran which advise you to fight non-believers. This must make all of the "good" Muslims wrong, no?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you read the Quran?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not in Arabic, skim read it the same as the bible.
Are you saying that the Muhammed was not told to fight those who do not believe in the lord our saviour Allah?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I only asked if you read the Quran. So you've skim read it?
"Are you saying that the Muhammed was not told to fight those who do not believe in the lord our saviour Allah?"
"Where did I say this in my question "Have you read the Quran?" Are you seeing things?
To be fair, my argument isn't about the Quran, or the bible, or any other text.
More the fact people in 2014 live their lives according to a book wrote hundreds of years ago. It just doesn't make sense.
I've no issue with people believe in a spiritual being, I just don't see how people can make up laws and beliefs based on a book that old.
Like I said, why shouldn't you or I make up our own religion? It would be just as real.

The key thing to remember is that the contents of the Bible or the Quran (or any other religious text) is not the word of God. It is the words of men either pretending or believing they are speaking on behalf of God.
The fact that people will live their lives by such words is actually quite saddening when I think about it.

Busby you seem to run onto these threads without any proper knowledge. You've just taken bits from here and there, bits from from the media, bit of skim reading from god knows where and no offence but you're wildly throwing around absurd statements like "The quran says to kill people as soon as youve had your breakfast in the morning, rape is advocated in islam, it says so in the quran, women have no rights in islam, muhammed said to kill a non muslim as soon as you see one etc"
If you're that keen, read it properly. Word for word. You're as bad as these nutjobs going around killing people in the name of islam or any other religion for that matter.

The religion itself is not evil. Some of the Muslims (terrorists like Al Qaeda, the Taliban, the Tamil Tigers, etc...), and some religious zealots are the ones who are evil, because they are hypocrites.

It is like most religious books. If you take it the right way, it has some very good life lessons. If you take it the wrong way, well enough said.
The Quran, can teach you to live a good life, and also how to treat others. It is a very elastic book though, like many religious books, it can be twisted in a way, to give you many different answers. The same can be done with the Bible and the Torrah. This can be a bad thing. It's through this "twisting" where some people believe that you can justify the killing of others. Again, this misinterpretation can be done with most religious books, that's where you get the different sects or groups of religions (such as you find with Roman Catholics and Fundamentalist Christians). You just have to be careful of what you read, and whom you let influence your life.
