You mean when Sterling punches his face
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pinch?
The question people should be asking is how the officials didn't see it, because that's the only way retrospective action can be taken. The official was stood there and actually moved out of the way of (let's call it a) push!
For them to say I didn't see it would be admitting they're incompetence.
Getting back to the point, Genius, this is just wrong isn't it. I understand the FA can increase a 'standard' ban based on the severity of the offence and 2 attempted elbows and one connecting elbow is reasonably severe in my book. 3 matches for each is called for.
It wasn't a punch or a push tbf. it was a slap. Should have beena red card but the linesman saw it and didn't act so he won't be punished. Similar to Shelvey not being punished for his elbow in the first half.
Any punishment for Charlie Adams? The fact that Adams getting away with his thuggish acts imo is a bigger farce. I wonder why....

Exactly what I was going to say. The FA is so inconsistent. Cissse should not accept the charges, he should send them the video of Adam, Shelvey and Stertling and ask why is he been singled out.
A 9 match ffs thats harsh!! if he's away on the ACON which covers his ban then so be it, i think your reaction is a tad ott.

How he is even allowed to play football is a joke.
Didn't see what Adam did this time but it's a recurring theme with him. He's a nasty piece of work
I agree regarding Charlie Adams. A fossil of a player.
Why won't there be any punishment for the linesman who was right there in front of the Sterling incident and let it pass? If he didn't see it then he's as blind as a bat and shouldn't be on a pitch, and if he did then he's not doing his job correctly.
It's a pathetic rule that says anything that was seen by a ref cannot be punished post-match. So basically saying that referees can never make mistakes.
The only 'punishment' given to the match officials, in my view, will be that they are temporarily suspended/ demoted, again temporarily again, to lesser matches.
I confess, that on seeing Raheem react, I immediately expected to see him red carded. Mariner is generally a very good ref, lenient at times, wanting to see the game play, to flow, but yesterday was not a good day at the office for him.

Spurtle.................................I understand your frustration, it used to be that if it was not in the referee's match report it could not be challenged. Referee's are supposed to be the SOLE arbitors on the pitch.
However, since players have become such a valuable commodity & apparently can get away with anything this is no longer the case.
It is my belief referees are under instruction to avoid controversy if possible, even if it means turning a blind eye to the occasional bit of thuggery.
There well maybe some sort of punishment for the lino, if he is deemed to have failed in his duty. This normally means a demotion to a lower league for a few matches.
However, you have also to remember that linesmen do not make decisions, their role is to indicate to the referee when an infringement of the laws of the game has occured. The referee makes the decision whether to blow his whistle or not.
Also we do not know what the referee's instructions to the other officials were prior to the game.
For instance, he might have told them not to put him on the spot if they are not 100% sure of an incident.
I always told my lino's, everything in their quarter of the pitch was theirs. Offsides, fouls, dissent etc....................if they called me across about a player, then it was either a boll cking, booking or a bath for the player!
JimmyTheRed...............................Nice honest assessment of the Sterling incident!

The FA will talk to Marriner & ask his opinion of the incident after showing him video evidence.
If Marriner then agrees that his view was not as good as the video & if he had seen the incident fully he would have sent Sterling off.
However if he says he saw the incident & was satisfied that any actions taken at the time were sufficient, the FA cannot do anything about it.

No. The assistant was standing right there in front of it. The referee would have felt he was in a perfect position to see it and thus left it up to him. The FA cannot act if the assistant has seen it but took no action. That's of course if the assistant tells the truth.

RAP, the defender Raheem was up against, the Argentian lad, knows every trick in the book, and Raheem rose to the bait. Very bad self-discipline. Red card.
JimmyTheRed
Sterling deserved to be red carded (by the letter of the law), it was just another instance of a Liverpool player being given the benefit of doubt, the majority of referees do this with Pool players.
Hence why so few Pool players are ever red carded and why they are gifted so many soft penalties and free kicks.

They also need to re-visit this "rugby tactics" in the penalty box, after Rooney's antics on Sunday. Whilst I agree United could & should have scored at least two goals in the first half, this incident happened in the second half with Spurs on top and a resulting penalty could have made all the difference.
................
Man utd should have had around 8 penalties against spurs in last few years and spurs got away with many red cards to. Spurs on top a couple of attacks and they are on top. If that is a penalty man utd should have been awarded about 20 pens this season.
Its scary how bad the refs are. They make ovrebo performance in Barcelona Chelsea game look normal.
I predict our first penalty this season hopefully 2 comes against Leicester. I hope both are after fouling the defender then diving like Leicester did against us and we do red card 2nd yellow fouls 4 or 5 times yet go unpunished and the player who should be sent off assists a lot of goals for us. I hope we score a goal after the ball being a yard out of play to for added measure. I doubt that will happen. I always find it funny every pundit when describing Leicester kept going on about the 5-3 game and what is missing when nothing is missing as 4 of those goals would never have happened if the linesmen or ref did there jobs.

United had 63% of the possession in the first half, yet over the total match play only 51%.....................so how do you account for the sudden change of possession? Even LVG admitted you had your backs to the wall in the second half.
