They shouldn't be, really. There is a case to be made for certain players though, like Lambert at Liverpool I guess. He put the effort in and made his way to as close to the top as you can get, really.
Maybe not a role model, but certainly an inspiration.
There are, but they shouldn't
In a footballing sense, yes. Good for a kid to have a hero he can relate to.
Though to be honest, that should always be a childs father, but that can't always be the case.
True though.
Oh, I got engaged btw.

Spot on. Your parents should be your role models. Footballers should behave themselves for the sake of their clubs. I don't buy in to this idea that they should behave themselves because they are role models.
Does anyone know of any kids who had Lee Hughes as a role model and then went onto kill somebody in their car? Me neither!
Oh, congrats on the engagement by the way!
Thanks
Thought it would keep he quiet for a bit but all I'm hearing is wedding shít.

Gutted mate Did she pull out the 'wedding folder' the second you got the ring on her finger? More fool you for thinking it'd take her a while to start building up steam for it!
It's up to the parents or those close to them to educate these kids on what behaviour from footballers is acceptable to look up to and what is not, if they don't know the difference already. It's not a footballer's responsibility to educate other people's kids on what is right and wrong.
I think you could do worse than looking at Scholes, for example, as a role model. He worked hard, achieved everything possible with United, and all the while maintained a pretty quiet family life.
The ones who give players a bad name are those that just go out and splash the cash on cars, coke and hookers...I.E. 99% of them.

But then there'd be nothing wrong with looking up to those players in a football sense if they went on to achieve a lot in the game, as long as these kids were educated enough (by their parents etc.) to differentiate between their off field activities and what they do on the pitch.
Aye, that's a fair point. It is ultimately the responsibility of the parents to keep a kid on track.

Nah she isn't too bad to be fair.
Also, a wedding day sounds good fun, I'm also having my Stag in Vegas and honeymoon somewhere cool.
"and honeymoon somewhere cool. "
The Arctic is pretty chilly
It's fun, provided you decide early on whether you give a fúck about it. If you do, prepare for arguments about topiary styled in the shape of a dog, or a cat. Alternatively you say you don't give a fúck and give your missus free reign to plan it all.
If both of you don't really care, just have a small one so you don't have to put up with hundreds of people you both hate.
You sound like you're talking from experience Jay - When did you have your civil partnership?

Spot on mate. Exactly what me and the Missus did. Don't regret it one bit. We spent the £1000's we saved on a deposit for a house.
Jay - I'll let her get on with it.
I'll get involved in the financial negotiations and the food/drink options, that's about it.
I had this 'role model' conversation recently. I kept being told that footballers should be role models because they 'earn too much money'...

That would involve a female with logic.
I said I'd rather spend £10k on the wedding and £5k on an amazing honeymoon but she isn't having it
Also, we won't be inviting people we don't like/ want there. She's drawn a list of about 120 people already and we're trying to knock it down to 100 which is a real struggle.
