........Kane - Sturridge
Sterling - Rooney - AOC
.........Henderson
Totally agree. Welbeck takes up the spot that better strikers are missing out on, and I say this accepting that Welbeck can sometimes do well for England. He should not however be considered a first XI player.
AOC: Lallana, Barkley, Walcott or Townsend
I think Wellbeck deserves his place in the squad. He offers pace and someone who can start centrally and wide....has a decent scoring record for Eng. Very different striker to Kane. Kane seems to have it all and can run with the ball, create (great throughball for Eriksen vs Sheff) can bang them in from range, one on ones, taps ins, decent in the air. Wellbeck is not sure an all round player but does have pace on his side and is better coming from wide IMO. Both hard workers.
Welbecks place for England is wide left, was only covering Sturridge up front. Cannot see Kane playing there.
Interesting to see if Kane takes Rooneys place, with Rooney playing deeper, and Kane partnering Sturridge.
Do we play a 3-5-2 with Carrick next to Henderson, behind those 5 mentioned above (with any of those listed by Loa!)
We actually have some quite good forward players at the moment.
I would say, however, that Welbeck does generally perform for England and I wouldn't say no to him appearing in the squad - especially if it was a choice between Welbeck and Lambert...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
unrotfunately Henderson is too weak to run the midfield on his own.
So that would mean Kane on the bench for Sturridge. I don't mind that to be honest. Let him develop into an international first. Play a few games from the subs bench or replace an injured Sturridge.
Hodge should give the lad Ward-Prowse a go. Looks decent.
To be fair, I'd actually rather let the young lads build up in the relative anonymity of the U21s...
Or we'll see what happened with Rooney, with Owen, with Wilshere... with whoever the last 'big thing' was. They will get build up as the Messiah, inevitably not be able to carry England, and they will fall.
Welbeck and Wilshere both better players for England then they are for Arsenal. Wilshere plays a different role which probably suits him more
I like the look of that England team for the future to be honest, it gives you some hope.
It's the hope that kills you though.

Not ready yet. Needs another season under his belt first.

That, and you simply cannot play a bunch of youth players and have no one with real experience left on the field. If we were to go with any of the formations listed above, frankly, you have to play Rooney.

You can't know they're not ready until you play them.
But for now, yeah it may be best he sticks with the U-21s. Roy won't pick him anyway.
For all the criticism Rooney gets he will get you goals for England by hook or by crook, whether it deflects off someone's ar se, or it's a pen.
I have no problem with Rooney in the England squad, there are plenty others who need culling first.
Most certainly Glen Johnson's time is up in an England shirt, if we're talking of culling other players. If he's still in the squad Hodgson needs to be shot.

How many of Linekar's did? Have a look at some of the teams he, and Shearer scored against. granted, they have a few more in big tournaments, but most of their goals are against minnows too.
