I really worry about football fans. The mere fact you introduce 6 new players into a squad with most of them regular starters indicates it will take time for them to gel, right?
Do you just believe you just sign players and wham, bam, thank you mam, titles!!
Busby - do you really believe are defence has played well?
Mud - how many more players do you believe LVG wants before he can say he has his own squad?
Busby - I didn't say we had a well balanced squad. Point was lvg has brought in 6 plus mcnair. How many more does he need before we can expect better from lvg.
If, as some claim, the problem is that LVG does not trust the defence, how much analysis of the squad - or how little rather - did he do before beginning the job?
What did he see that convinced him that Jones/Evans/Smalling/Rafael were not top quality, reliable defenders? If he has worked out during the season that Rafael is injury prone and unable to be trusted, why did he not buy a RB in the last transfer window? I understand the difference between training with a player every day and simply watching him play from the stands, but what on earth did he see in Evans that convinced him that he could form part of a top CB pairing? He was very quick to ship out Nani/Cleverley/Welbeck etc, why has he persisted with the dross at the back?
Because we're not being paid £6-8m pa to manage the team, but if you had done nothing but watch MOTD for the last 3 years it was painfully obvious that the club needed a top CB more than it needed Falcao.
The reason why our team is disjointed is because it lacks balance.
The way to balance it is 3-5-2. When he plays it, people start crying.
The team is also unsettled with so much chopping and changing as a result of injuries.
So you will get disjointed performances.
There are a few things I would like to see done but for now, the manager is getting results, for now, that is what we need.
In the summer, I believe we will strengthen those positions and play much more expansive, entertaining football
Mud - how many more players do you believe LVG wants before he can say he has his own squad?
==========
I cannot say for sure as I am not LvG. I do get the impression he wanted Vidal or someone of that ilk. Vidal and a CB and we should be there or therabouts
You have not answered my question about how many players LvG has lost, not fair you asking questions expecting responses but not doing the same. Is it?

Sorry but signing 6 players when you also lose 3 defenders who hve been the cornerstone of our side for nearly a decade, is going to cause issues.
We weren't in a position to buy lots of top class players, we weren't in the CL.
Then you need to look at our wide players, we simply don't have enough.
Our midfielders are all average to good, none are great. We hve a very slow side.
It really does lack balance, l of the players LVG has brought in I've been reasonably happy with. But t's fair to say Shaw and Herrera were deals previously agreed and he merely gave the nod.

Or Southampton this season.
And I don't think anyone is demanding titles just yet, but at the moment few on here would bet their house on United getting top 4, and the football being served up is some of the worst seen from a top team for years.
Titles ? Who said titles.
My view is that some on here are accommodating lvg a little too much given the ability within the squad, his ability as a coach, and the time he has had with them between games. There are others that demand maybe a bit too much, too soon.
Personally, I believe with the ability in the squad, we should be performing better, although 3rd isn't a bad place to kick on from.
It's all opinion and we aren't going to agree sadly.

Available for transfer? I have no idea, players don't generally walk around with for sale signs around their necks - expect for Pogba and his agent I guess - but it is safe to assume that if the club had slapped down £20m offers on the table for either Colemane or Clyne then one of the clubs would have probably taken it and both players I am guessing would have been up for the move.
We should just hope we can make top 4, give LVG the summer and if we see no improvements by December, maybe start again.
Little point in starting a fresh in the summer, that's a dangerous game.
"The reason why our team is disjointed is because it lacks balance."
And that is the reason I am saying he didnt buy those players with a plan in mind on how he was going to use them. I mean spending 150m then still play Rooney in midfield and Di Maria upfront not to mention so many other square pegs in round holes when you have Herrerer not getting a kick, to me I see no plan.

Agree on much of that, and if he gets top 4 it probably ought to buy him a bit more time, but equally the fact that with the modest competition around this season a top 4 place is still somewhere between a hope and an expectation - and a long way short of a guarantee - shows what a poor job he has done so far.
And it is safe to say that if the current level of performance continues then after matches against Cit, Chelsea, Pool etc the table may look a lot less healthy.

Southampton wouldn't have sold anyone in January no matter the offer. The possibility of Champions League riches is worth more to them than a quick buck selling their right back.

I don't forget, but for me results are more important than style of play.
I'd rather win the CL playing like Chelsea did than get knocked out in the SF playing the way Barca did.
You make it sound as though our football has been boring from the moment LVG walked in, which simply isn't the case. We were leaking goals, losing points and he decided a different approach would equate to more points, so far he's being proven right.

Why can't we have balance playing 442 or 433?
We have the players for all of the positions.
Januzaj and Di Maria beat players for fun on the wing.
We have at least 2 capable strikers that can play alone up front, a flurry of players that can play behind the main forward.
Most importantly we have the midfielders now to cope, in a 433 you can play Herrera/Mata, Blind and Carrick.
Looks quite solid for me.
I'm apart of the LVG IN crowd but it is disappointing that he hasn't twigged that we are balanced enough squad wise to play these conventional formations.

What is most troubling about LVG is that back in November/early December we were winning games every week. 6 wins in a row. It wasn't amazing football but it was better than what we have now. He barely got any criticism.

How can you say he has no plan?
We needed defenders, he signed one, one that can play in defence and promoted a youngster
We need midfielders and a wide man, signed
He played Di Maria upfront, trying something out that did not work. Has not done it again.
He is playing Rooney in midfield because he wants to add more balance to the team and thinks rooney does that better than Herrera. I do not agree but that is what he thinks.
A lot of the square pegs in round holes is just blown out of proportion.

You think spending £60m on a guy who has played his entire career as a winger/midfielder, then using him as a striker when you already have 4 strikers at the club, shows a plan?
Which midfielders did he sign? Herrera? When did he last start a PL game?
How does promoting a youngster count as part of a plan?
If he wants pace upfront why did he not sign a pacy frontman? If he doesn't trust Rafael why did he not buy a RB? If he think the CBs are vulnerable why not bid for Benatia before Bayern got him for £20m?
The guy has been a manager in Europe for 20 years and appears to have made 2 signings of his own this summer - Blind and Rojo - and then decided not to add to the squad in January. If he fails to get top 4 this season it will be an almighty balls up.
