I am currently suffering from upper back pain on my right side. Was in the gym doing some weights and i heard a pop around my upper right side. Can't even lift my right arm up without it paining.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Assuming you were deadlifting or doing some type of overhead press?
Usually will go away after a week or so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Barbell Overhead press
And i've had the pain for about 6 weeks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where you sitting down or standing up?
Depends on what you've done to your back, he most common reason for back pain is your mattress.
If it's a sporting injury then rest, rest and rest.
Oh, and ask for some tramedol from your doctor, sorted me right out after a car crash. They are very strong though so if you like the spaced out feeling you get from opiates, stick to paracetamol ect.

Speaking from experience, be careful with upper back/shoulder pain. Rest it properly for a good 2/3 weeks, otherwise you'll be out for a long time. If it's still hurting after 2/3 weeks, pressure your GP for an MRI or ultrasound.
Went back to the gym too early after doing something similar to my shoulder after incline pressing, and that made the pain worse. Doctor recommended some physio exercises, and it got worse again.
Finally got another doctor to refer me for a scan 6 months later, turns out I have a SLAP tear. Need surgery at some point, so will have been out for over a year before I can go gym again. Worst thing is my anatomy demonstrator at uni warned me this could happen, and I didn't listen to him
I've had a lot of back problems recently to the point I was walking like an old man for several days. The Mrs showed me so Pilates exercises the best of which is where you lay on your back knees up with your lower legs at 90 degrees and you lower them to your side while looking back in the other direction. I do it most night now and it has helped a lot. Also posture at work is important if you're behind a desk all day.
