Do you know what is actually wrong with your back?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah. Couple of vertebrae slipped out of position.

Ahh nasty.

Diazepam really should help if you can get some as well as painkillers.

It's a muscle relaxant so does help with back problems and if it's strong enough will just knock you out so you shouldn't have trouble sleeping.

Depends if you want to drug yourself up to the teeth, though.

As long as I sleep, I don't really care. I'll give that a go. Failing that, I'll try the dragon an unicorn blood.

Go for it. Not sure if your back is seizing up but it will help with that as well.

I did my back in and that along with physio was the best solution. Though doesn't sound as bad as your problem.

Ah, that will explain why the mattress isn't working then.

Speaking as someone who has suffered for years with it due to degenerative discs, I would suggest you get lots of ibuprofen into your system, couple that with lying on your front with a pillow under your feet, elevating them slightly, preferably on a hard surface like the floor, see a physio for floor exercises, invest in a Tens machine, but do try to keep moving as well, walking is ideal.
Another little tip, DO NOT take hot baths, take showers instead

One of the quickest ways of relieving back pain is to work on your stomach muscles.

Thanks all. Dosing myself on painkillers now. Don't really agree with my brain, but the pain is gone for a bit. Out of action for the next couple of hours. Can't concentrate after I've taken them.
Have a good weekend people.

Yoga mate

Try that exercise where you lie on the floor with your back at a right angle. Think its called the sphinx or something. Back pain is probably one of the worst things imaginable.

I am currently suffering from upper back pain on my right side. Was in the gym doing some weights and i heard a pop around my upper right side. Can't even lift my right arm up without it paining.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Assuming you were deadlifting or doing some type of overhead press?

Usually will go away after a week or so.

OP: bit late but will comment anyway.

Get yourself a foam roller. You will probably need a few of different strengths to ease yourself into it. Roll on it every morning if you can even if you do not feel pain sometimes.

Start training your core. A very common cause of back pain is simply from people not training their core. Weak stomach essentially puts too much pressure on your lower back.

Start using some basic yoga techniques when stretching too.
