Missing out on top 4 again.

I had no idea the CL money went up to £60m next year, including lower gate receipts/PL tv coverage/sponsorship money (think Nike revenue was lower this year because of no CL) you're looking at an £80m hit if LVG fluffs his lines over the next 2 months.

Given how poor most of his signings have been this year, if the club decides the only way to guarantee CL next year is to spend another £100-150m, will they give that money to LVG? Would you??

DiMaria and Falcao have been disasters. Based on that judgement....

There's the point, if it "only" costs the club £20m to get rid of LVG they might see that as a better investment than giving the money to him to fritter away...depending on who else they can get in of course.

FYI I happen to think that Falcao was a bad signing, but ADM was a good one - though overpriced by £20-25m - but is simply not delivering at all.

The club will spend whoever the manager is.

RVP is on the wane, I can't see falcao staying, we need a RB if rafael isn't in LVG's plans, carrick is 34, our problems at CB are well documented.

overpriced and not delivering. A double whammy then. Couldnt be a worse signing IMO

Lvg can't be blamed for the fee however he is responsible for wasting di Maria, Herrera, mata and Rooney for large parts of the season so far

I am of the opinion that the signings of adm and falcao are not LVGs. Maybe more to do with the advertisers investing?

LVG came into utd late due to WC and some major decisions were already made. Major players like mata and hererra already signed. wayne rooney offered captaincy etc. Non of which i believe would have happened by LVG choice

I see us losing to arsenal in facup and scraping top 4. Then major changes in the summer. Personally think even no top 4 and still give lvg next season and a summer

Inclined to agree on ADM and Falcao, which is why I was surprised he didn't do more in the January window (about which there is a myth that it is impossible to buy quality players, something which is simply not true).

I think we need to tell the PL to just end the league and put Utd out of the top 4.

It truly is pointless playing any more football

Don - i wasnt suprised with no signings in Jan. I am of the opinion that lvg simply doesnt have a best 11. Remember he came in late and then had the injuries. Add to that what i believe is he HAS to play certain players and you get what we have currently.

Also people forget that most players struggle when coming to the epl and adm etc are no different. With the changes and new players are utd actually doing that bad? For me no

Maybe the board should have paid more attention to his WC commitments then and gone for a manager who wouldn't have had 3 weeks in the job before the season started.

As for having to play certain players, I've been waiting all season for Louis to flop his big hairy b.a.lls out and wave them in all our faces, but it just hasn't happened.

Tony Pulis would have had us in this position with £150m and I am deadly serious. That's not to say I wanted him though.
Missing out on the top 4 will be huge , big financial hit, won't get anywhere near buying the likes of Pogba, Bale, Ronaldo, Naingolan, Gundogan, Cavani, Koke, Marquinos, Laporte etc...
People will argue we got Di Maria, but it was just due to FFP and a huge transfer fee. He seems a reluctant player at our club and will probably end up at PSG

Don - i agree re the 3 weeks. I guess it depends on the remit given to him. I cant help but wonder if his main remit was getting shot of players and sort of start again.

The only reason i havent been overly critical of LVG is because of the reasons i have listed and why i think he hasnt done so badly. We knew fergie leaving will have an impact but then Moyes made it worse.

posted on 22/2/15

Appointing Moyes was a disaster. They thought they were building another dynasty or something. British manager that knew the league who had done reasonably well, hard working ethic, endorsed by SAF.
Quite simply we should have gone for Mourinho, like him or loathe him. With that transfer budget he would have brought us success.
I admit I don't like his win at all costs attitudes and controversial style but is that so different from SAF ?

I'm not giving up just yet with regards to a top4 finish.
Us playing the other fighters for that position, other than Soton, can be a positive in the sense that it is still in our hands, so to speak.

Nobody has given up yet. Well maybe with the exception of a few primadonnas.

Our next 3 games are absolutely vital. We need maximum points from Sunderland H, Newcastle A and Spurs H.

I'd feel much better going into the Liverpool game on the back of 3 good solid wins.

Even the primadonnas would be foolish to write off top 4 whilst the club is sitting in 4th...but it's a question of reading the tea-leaves.

And let's face it, the fans are one bad result - and a failure to beat Sunderland, at home, would be exactly that - from open revolt.

I am very confident at anfield against you lot.

we outplayed you at your own backyard and it was daylight robbery.

We created 10 open chances we hit the post and how we did not score I dont know. At the time we didn't were in form also.

You will face a different liverpool now with pace and a finisher.

Think you're slightly overplaying your performance at Old Trafford, but I agree that if the match were being played today you'd be likely to win (especially with United having to play twice in 2 days).

Yep I am afraid we could get trounced. Still don't think you lot with come top 4 either. Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Spurs or us

If Utd miss out on top 4 this season and next then the empire will well and truly crumble, as far as I knew your sponsorships get slashed if you don't get top 4 this season. So assuming you spend big this summer and miss out on top 4 again next season then you're fúcked, you already have the highest wage bill and by far the most expensive squad.

Slightly wishful thinking, the sponsorships will indeed dip if they fail to make CL this year and next, but they won't be "slashed", and a lot of wages are set to come off the books soon too (Cleverley, Nani, Hernandez, Falcao etc.).

And in terms of wages to turnover they are certainly below Chelsea and City, and quite possibly Liverpool and Arsenal, given that their income even without CL is miles ahead of the rest. But for sure the structure of the club is not built on the assumption of Europa League football every year.

posted on 22/2/15

In terms of wages we are way below you.

You guys give guys like Falcao, Rooney, van Persie wages og 300 grand p/w.

posted on 22/2/15

it's a risky though especially if you spend big this summer on the wrong players, because last two years you've spent huge money but not really bought in any quality players. So if you do that again you'll have wasted most of your spare cash, have a really expensive squad and much lower revenues which is bad combination. That's what I'm hoping for
