Can has been better, plus I don't think he's been any better than Sakho.

Can wasn't in the team for loads of the season.

Skrtel is one of our best players the flack he gets is completely ridiculous.

Completely agree. About time he got the credit he deserved.

Skrtel has been shoving his critics words down their throats for months now.

He's fantastic in that central position in the back 3, suits his style perfectly, allows him to attack the ball.

Still have reservations about him being one of 2 cbs in a back 4, but can't deny how good he's been recently.

No. Our defence and overall game have improved when Lucas and Can started to play. Sakho as well. But then Lucas and Sakho got injured. We are still doing well. Skrtel has improved but he still makes those silly mistakes giving away free kicks and beaten at set pieces when defending.

Can and Coutinho for me

Football has now become micro critiwued. He gives away a free kick is now akin to some players being labelled rubbish or average. Of course a defender will gove away a fk every now and then, but that doesnt make the player rubbish

I have never ever given Skrtel flack, he has always been capable. I still standby Can is the reason we are doing better, he is composed, Skrtels skill is attacking the ball.

It's this system that's made Skrtel. He has more protection around him and isn't under as much pressure. I maintain that he isn't effective in a system with 2 CB's. He's too error prone in that system.

But yes, he's currently excellent. But very lucky not to give a penalty away today, when he shoved Aguero who was facing away from goal.

The with and without Sakho splits are so drastic. When he's started, only conceded 16 in 21. When he hasn't 32 in 22.

1.4 - Liverpool have conceded twice as many goals per game without Sakho this season than when he has played. Rock.

I think Sterling has been our best player over the season but Skrtel has been fantastic for 3 months, and for most of the last 3 years he has been very good.

Underrated centre back.

Sterling for me has been our most consistent player across the season. Even when we were rubbish he was playing well individually more often than not.

Coutinho is our most important attacking player because he knits it altogether and turns good moves into great ones. He is too inconsistent still to win any awards though. When he plays well, we play well.

agree with all that righteous, those 3 months coincide with sakho and emre appearing more, seems to make him more comfortable

The stats are skewed though. Skrtel plays every game so his stats are simply the team stats. Can and Sakho were out of the team the first half of the season when nothing was working. If Skrtel had been out then and just played the second half his stats would be outstanding.

Some people don't understand how to use stats and put perspective on them.

He has definitely been better in a 3 as it plays to his strengths. He doesn't have to think about distribution and can just head it, clear it, kick it and mark it.

I think people underestimate how good he is at those things though. When it's cleared from our box it's usually Skrtel doing the clearing.

He is undoubtedly a great "team" player. However, too much shirt pulling to give him the "player of the year" award in my opinion.

For people who underrate a player...they're the people that go too much the other way and overrate him...e.g Skrtel for player of the season

In your opinion. For me Skrtel has at least been our second best player with Sterling the only other close to him. To say he's been the best, well I agree.

Not the player of the year, but has been our most solid CB the whole season for me
