Looking forward to the vr face off in the next few years, let's hope it doesn't turn into another 3d fad. Games like Aliens should be a danger to your underpants!
To me VR offers so much more than simple 3d, it has potential outside of gaming too and Im sure will be take off, not saying that will be the Morpheus or oculus but it is a tchnology that will only improve.
These are the first true steps into VR and so far the people trying it are finding the experience unique and exciting.
You can't beat Nintendo's Virtual Boy, headaches guaranteed
If im to be honest Amiga i see this as the point of no return for games, as i honestly believe the console will move away from the TVs and all will be done on the headsets instead, and this will include stuff that isnt necessary like watching films or just playing games be that a FPS which will use the helmet to its full potential to 3rd person or strategy games etc. And like you said the tech has finally caught up to VR, cos lets be honest all that stuff in the 90s was sh ite!!
Not sure about moving away from the TV if Im honest simon, one advantage the TvV has is that you can all gather round it, even with Morpheus the picture will still be on the TV as well so mates can see whats happening.
Either way VR is happening and it will evolve into a lot more than gaming, and from what I have seen of people experiencing VR, it really is a game changer.
As long as we don't all end up like that bloke from lawn mower man I'm all for it
Hope it will be far superior to occulus rift
I wouldnt think there will be much to choose between the two, Sony are hardware people and although a powerful PC has to be a plus, the PS4 hardware is known and can be maximised to its full potential.
I read oculus peole talking about Sonys attitude to VR and they were pleased that Sony understood as they did the importance and solutions to creating an enjoyable VR experience, a lot of which has been addressed in this new prototype.
I think PS4 owners can look forward to a great VR gaming experience.
Why would you need it "far superior" to the rift? By all accounts the rift is a very very good piece of kit at a pretty good price, and does everything needed in a vr headset......
Not interested in VR tbh. And I'll be plssed if gaming goes fully VR. I like a console and a controller.

Like Amiga said wont go fully VR, but i feel the tv screen will become secondary
As long as we get the option then all's good
Randomer: Not interested in VR tbh.
I would say your perception of VR could drastically change if you tried it, the experience is a real game changer, although I havent tried it yet i have been keeping tabs on it and watched and read many peoples experience with it, many like you were skeptical about it too.
Dont write it off just yet Randomer, but if it really isnt your cup of tea, the TV will always be an option Im sure.
Im not interested in VR. Not even interested in handheld. VR with just end up being either a gimmick or its own niche genre.
Im with Randomer, and huge tv with a console/controller or just stick with a PC. Ive fallen so far off consoles now that I cant see myself making my way back.
Again RtM your dismissing VR before even understanding what it offers, there are many companies investing a serious amount of money into this tech now and like I said the people trying it are by and large blown away by the unique experience, including many skeptics.
VR will happen, to call it a gimmick shows how little you understand what VR is or what it offers.
So how does it work? You put on a headset and a handheld controller, what makes you move in an 1st person shooter for example? The controller?
So if so, it's basically a 3d TV right? Pretty cool if it's all it's cracked up to be.
For those saying they'd rather stick with consoles, I honestly think consoles don't have more than 3 or 4 years left in them. Where do they go from here? More CoDs, more FIFAs, maybe another Skyrim in a year or two? Honestly, think people are bored.
VR is surely the future
It is more than 3d, your whole perception changes as you are actually in the game, you look around your environment and it follows, just like you were in the room, you are immersed in gameplay, suddenly your world is the game your no longer looking at an image on a screen, you are part of it.

There are a lot of people who would prefer to just have a screen and controller, not just a few here and there.
And I think there would be a negative reaction if eventually you didn't have the option.
As I said, not interested in VR at all.
And as I said Ransomer, you have no idea what VR is or offers
"There are a lot of people who would prefer to just have a screen and controller, not just a few here and there."
I think consoles will live on, certainly in the next 4-5 years, but it's hard to see where they go from here.
They are approaching the limit of what they can do graphically imo, and top class games are becoming more and more rare - the only two in the past 3 years being TLOU and GTA imo
They'll always be a market for a a console, but I can see VR overtaking it massively for sure.
you ask what I have against the rift? it's likely a money sink for less-good technology than what Sony can do

I'm sorry mate but how the fluck do you know? Because I'm not interested in it means I haven't researched it?
Take your fanboyism elsewhere it's getting boring now.
Randomer VR is very interesting to me and I have certainly been following the tech news regarding it, if you want to call that fanboyism thats fine with me
You make general statements and the fact you think it will stop the TV being an option, shows how little research you have done.
But having said that, if you really dont want to try VR then that is your prerogative, VR will be another option and one many gamers will enjoy, but it goes beyond gaming.
But If you prefer the TV I'm sure it will always be an option, even I cant imagine wanting all my gaming in VR.
Yes the statement that I wasn't interested in VR which in your head seems to have meant I havn't done any research.
The part about replacing TVs was only in reply to others posting about the chances of that, I didn't explicitly say I think it will. I did say as long as there is the option then I have no problem.
But obviously that wasn't good enough, I must be a diehard fan of VR or else I'm clueless
And yeah I do call it fanboyism when you outright refuse differing opinions to your own, like all the time. You won't have a bad word said about the order ffs or the PS4 in general.
