I don't think I did criticise the Arsenal players for celebrating.

Fack me, how much more thick can one get? Go tell teams battling not to get relegated that all the matters is finishing first. Even coming from a Man U or Chelsea fan, this would be quite moronic.

I totally agree.
Football isn't just about finishing first, it’s about progression, achieving something bigger than the least season, and eventually trying to get to No.1.
I don’t mind admitting, if finishing 1st was all i cared about i wouldn’t bother watching any league games at all because we would need a miracle to win the Premiership as it stands.
Hopefully we can keep improving, progressing, seeing some good times - certainly more than the bad - and perhaps one day - hopefully not in the too far distant future - truly compete for a league title.
But as it stands, i will continue watching for the rest of the season knowing that we won’t.
Lois van Gaal has recently stated that getting a top four place is more important than winning the fa cup.
I can understand the champions league is very very lucrative but football is all about winning things.
Dont get me wrong if Spurs can get into the top four this season i will be over the moon, ive never felt more proud than seeing our boys entering the field to the champions league theme tune but i would have prefered to have won the capital / Fa cup or Europa this season.
the world has gone mad.

It wasn't hate - it was just the opposite opinion to you.
Sandy did you enjoy Spurs' run in the cl?

How the mighty have fallen
Fergie (even if he believed it) would never have said this.
I reckon it is because there are more teams competing this season than any other. Usually it is between a couple of teams. This season we have -
Utd
Arsenal
Liverpool
Saints
Spurs
all in with a chance of getting top 4.
The Champions League is completely over hyped. It will be the pre-cursor of a European league to generate even more revenue.

I think any honest manager would admit so.
Would love to win the FA cup but top 4 is the priority!

Spurs run in the CL was OK, but not as good as winning European trophies, or indeed getting to the semi final in the early 60s. I enjoyed the wins, but it was not high on my most memorable European campaigns I have seen spurs play in.
Champions league is great though especially the knock out stages, even if liverpool are not playing I'll watch a cl game, think that's an important point as it demonstrates just how big the cl is.
Fair enough sandy if that's how you feel can't argue with that. But the op dismissed the importance of the cl which I don't agree with and is wager most fans would agree with me.
I love cup runs, the 2006 FA cup win for liverpool was great, I'll never forget the away tie v Luton super game.
But 2005 cl tops it all for me, unless we could just manage a league title Id love that more then anything

The CL knockout stages have become a joke, the first knockout stage started three weeks ago, and is still going on. I doubt anybody can even remember which games are being played now. Big, big turn off for a lot of supporters.
Agree it's too stretched out now and would order if it was two legs played over two weeks, it's the nature of the beast.
Like the Europa should IMO be a straight two legged ko conpetition from the start, would make it a far better comp
kneerash
Yes winning it is one thing, but just making up the numbers every year like Arsenal is a complete and utter farce, and makes a mockery of why even teams that finish 3rd or 4th are allowed in a competiton. should be champions only, then just perhaps teams may make winning their domestic league a bit more important than just finishing top four.
Years ago when you had straight two legged knockout from the off you had some truly fantastic games.
The CL is only going to get bigger too. It's only a matter of time before they scrap the Europa and give the 'big' leagues 5 or 6 spots in the CL.

The trouble is with the modern game, it is all about money, unfortunately I have not the slightest interest on how much money my club makes or does not make, I have and will only ever be interested in my club trying to finish 1st in a league, or to win a cup competition.
Wild Rover
The more clubs they put in the CL, the moe boring it gets.
I don't think anyone doesn't try and go for the title to just get top 4, they'll be trying to get as many points as possible.
It's other competitions like the league cup and FA cup that suffer, nobody holds back in the league, they'd secure top 4 even earlier by going for it...

It really surprised me why the English teams didn't try harder in the Europa League this year, especially when the winner now gets a CL spot.
Speaking of which, if Everton win the Europa league (unlikely but not impossible), would that be an extra CL spot or would they take the place of the team that finishes 4th?
Rover no it's an independent place so there would be potentially 5 English clubs in the cl if Everton won the Europa.
Sandy I agree on the money side I'm not too interested in what the club earns I'm not in it for the spreadsheets.
But I disagree on arsenal just making up the numbers in the cl. They came close to winning it once and have been in several semi finals and quarter finals.
The main reason I disagree though is because as a fan of a club watching them play is the best thing, if your club is in Europe that's more games to watch, like I've been watching liverpool play twice a week for nearly 3 months now, some games were poor but still I got to watch us play so often, as a fan that's the best thing for me.
I have and will only ever be interested in my club trying to finish 1st in a league,
-------------------------------------------------------------------
So after about Jan/Feb do you stop watching football every season because usually by then THFC are nowhere near the league title.
Kneerash
Arsenal have been in it about 20 times, and got to one final, that is an absolutely atrocious record.
Yes it is a poor record and just getting into it shouldn't be seen as a major success but it's not like they work really hard to just qualify for it, the manager and players must believe they can have a good go at winning it, arsenal haven't won it but they are trying to.
