Some of you are hypocrites, I'm afraid. If it was the right player, I'm sure all of you would be offended if they celebrated against your beloved clubs.

Not offended at all. Maybe annoyed, and it might make me dislike them, but that would almost certainly be the case anyway if they were playing for another club.

I'm annoyed with Danny for celebrating, but I still very much like the guy and want him to do well.
The difference between RVP and Wélé celebrating is that RVP was continually booed by the vast majority of Arsenal fans regardless of if he celebrated.
Danny Welbeck was and is adored by the majority of United fans, who had not been booing him, and with it being his first trip back to OT, I find it very disrespectful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh please... Get off your high horse! Disrespectful? It was an honest reaction, an outpouring of delight at scoring a very very important goal, both for himself and the club that now employs him. It wasn't anything personal against United fans, or the club.
And he doesn't owe them anything anyway. Your manager decided he was surplus to requirements and unceremoniously offloaded him.
Hey, maybe your fans shouldn't have celebrated Rooney's goal for fear of offending Welbeck? After all, that's pretty disrespectful after he gave so much to the club for all those years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not on a high horse at all mate, I said I still like and support the guy.
It was his first trip back to OT where the vast majority of people didn't want him to leave. If he had come back and celebrated next time, I wouldn't have minded at all, I just found it slightly disrespectful, given that he was getting a good reception from the fans. We all know the connotations that come with celebrating against your old club.
You say he doesn't owe us anything, that's your opinion, but what LVG does or says is irrelevant, because the fans love the player and supported the player for years against the very fans that were calling him shít last year.
The other way of looking at it is that it would be disrespectful to his own fans if he didn't celebrate the goal.

I don't think that's the case at all. None of us found it disrespectful when RVP didn't celebrate.
it wasn't like that adebarndoor animal who was clearly intent on winding the fans up.
welbeck's celebration was a natural reaction to the situation
I noticed our fans booing Welbeck when he was subbed and some were clapping. Does anyone now whether Welbeck scored before or after he was subbed cos if it was before he was subbed then that would explain the booing but if it was after he was subbed then that explains the clapping cos they didn't know that he would go on to score the winner after the substitution. Can anyone clear it up for me? Did Welbeck's goal come before or after Giroud game on? Thanks.
Frank didn't celebrate when he scored for city against us.Personally it wouldn't have bothered me if he had!

Ehh? Read up. You included your original post in your quote where you used that exact word, lol.
Thought the way he acted was pretty respectful anyway, he was clearly happy but didn't make a massive fuss out of it at the same time. Considering what a big goal it was I would have thought Welbeck would have celebrated even more if it was another team.
A player doesn't have to refuse to even smile and just push their teammates away, its okay to look happy about the goal at an ex club.
Of course they should.
The whole don't celebrate a goal culture is pathetic.
Fans need to grow up.
I've no problem with it at all.
He scored a goal for his new club against a club who didn't want him. Thought he reigned it in quite well to be fair whole also enjoying the moment.
I have far better things to worry about. Like how he got the chance in the first place. I am annoyed about that.
Yes he was. Former players not celebrating against former employers is stupid - always comes across as a political manoeuvre rather than a genuine show of respect. I applause him for breaking that expectancy.
As others have mentioned, RVP didn't celebrate either of his goals against Arsenal during his first season and still got dogs abuse, so then he decided to celebrate the season after.
Welbs didn't want to leave United, he was shoved out for not being good enough so it's a different situation.
It's gone to far now though IMO, Steven Caulker scored for Cardiff against Swansea and didn't celebrate because he was on loan at Swansea a coupel of years previous
Danny Graham was practically apologising for scoring for Hull against Swansea

There are different situations...
I imagine I would have acted much like Lampard and Welbeck did with their goals against previous employers, might have been tempted to do what Ade did given his treatment.
Seems a bit silly when you were at the club for 2 minutes and were never a huge favourite or anything, its why it was a little different for Sturridge as he was very popular at Bolton even though he wasn't there long.
Apparently welbeck has received death threats from United fans.

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/563013/Danny-Welbeck-death-threats
Most of those aren't even death threats...
Although saying you will celebrate in front of someones family when they die is pretty harsh, nothing really wrong with saying somebody is dead to you...
I think it depends on the player. Welbeck was offloaded by United after doing everything he could for the club.
He is a professional at Arsenal and he has every right to celebrate scoring.
I don't think he knew what to do. He was a massive celebrator when at United. Think he sort of settled for half way. It's a hard decision I think against a team you love, but I'm personally glad he showed some emotion about scoring a goal - that's the game
I don;t see the issue..OK there are exceptions to the norm like Lampard and Gerrard, who have spent their entire careers at the club, and have been there for over a decade.
But when the likes of Sturridge do not celebrate when he scores against Man City or Chelsea..give me a break!!
