I'd imagine the latter.
A couple of years ago it was £1M extra for every finishing position higher. Can't imagine it would be much more than say £1.5M extra now?
So say you finished 7th rather than 11th, that would be £6M, I am sure you'd make much more than that when taking into account prize, ticket and tv money...
Although you would need a bigger squad to cope with it, so some of the extra is eaten up by the need for more players to be able to handle it.
The former guarantees a top seven finish and better Prem payments as well as a minimum of atleast the group stage in Europe the following season. The latter guarantees group stage and last 16(?) this season in Europe, less Prem payments and no Europe the following season. You lose 6m with the latter. Question is, is the money you make from the two knockout rounds alone in Europe more than 6m? Probably yes but not sure.
What is not known is how you would have done in Europe the following season had you qualified.
from what I have read the money available from Europa league isn't great plus with the money available from the premier league especially with the new deal, I would say finishing top 6 pays more.
How much do you think it is per an extra higher position Mr Reasonable?
Because between tv, ticket and prize money I just can't see the extra making the difference. That is before we even take into account things like extra exposure for your sponsors and taking Everton to a wider audience...

According to the sites I just looked at the difference in prize money between finish 6 & 12 in the league would be roughly 9.2 million and the total prize money for winning the Europa league is 9.9 million. As far as extra exposure for sponsors, I am pretty sure our sponsorship deal didn't involve European football. ( I could be wrong about the last pointo )
The extra exposure for Everton and sponsors is more of a long term benefit, playing regular European football would encourage them to pay more to sponsor you.
What about the TV and ticket money though?
Surely even a half empty goodison must generate a lot of money and you played like 6 home games?
I am sure its in the millions for United, takings for a game but I am really not sure what to estimate for Everton...
Well we have roughly half the capacity of old Trafford & nothing like the business sense. I agree regarding long term exposure but to benefit from that you need to regularly compete in Europe. Something we unfortunately haven't been doing.
The higher up you finish the more money you make from TV as well if I'm not wrong.
TBH Mamba I thought that was the extra money from finishing higher, it comes from the TV rights...
Or do you get prize money for finishing higher and then extra tv money for finishing higher?
Ill be honest I always assumed it was the former.
Mr playing in Europe say 1 in every 3 years would probably add a small bit extra to it, although less than that and it probably wouldn't make much difference.
I am fairly sure the TV money is split without regard for your league position in so much as everyone gets the same lump sum for the season. You do get an amount though per live game you play, we earned £13m last year from that with Arsenal/Man U/Man City and Chelsea earning £19m and Liverpool leading the way with £21m.
The merit payments do come from the TV deal obviously but you wouldn't say it was TV money as such.
Yes, Toffee that's my angle. The higher you finish the higher the demand for your live games the following season and even during a season.
The moral of the story is the more successful you are the more you earn via prize money.
P.s. With knock on effects for more tv coverage (again more money) & better bargaining for sponsorship (again more money)
