Horrible condition. My job brings me into contact with the cruel effects of diabetes on a daily basis such as diabetic retinopathy.

Wow, I didn't know it could be that serious.

Thought you just injected a bit of insulin and voila its sorted.

I am myself diabetic, but not as serious as type 1 which Gary Mabbutt has, I have type 2 and control it with tablets only, not insulin. It is very restrictive though as concerns diet. I still have to do regular check ups though, and hopefully it will not get any worse.

I manufacture tablets for type 2 diabetes... Sandy, you will have to start hero worshipping me!!

Diabetes as the OP said is a very dangerous and seriously underestimated condition. Type 1 starts early in life, and needs injections every day to control it and Type 2 tends to kick in with older people and is controlled by changes in diet or tablets. Both are equally unwelcome.

Get well soon Gary.

Also, make sure you get your eyes tested at least once a year if you're diabetic. Diabetes can cause blindness.
You're entitled to a free eye exam once a year from the NHS.

Diabetes can be very serious. I have to go for regular foot check ups, and eye screening. Amputation is a real threat with untreated diabetes, as well as serious problems with the eyes.

Ace

I must admit I did like a bit of chocolate, but I think mine is hereditary, my Gran had diabetes, but she was on insulin. We are the only two in the family ever diagnosed with Diabetes.

Get well soon Gary from your friends at Spurs, a lovely man who actually phoned my wife up to wish her a happy birthday when he was our captain after i had written to him.
