He wanted 3 years we didn't think he was good enough for 3 seasons so we offered one year. His performances this season have justified what he was offered.

He will be a loss as he has been one of the premierships best players. all the players at the club and at International level have all said he is a great captain.

I think the time was right to move on. I know a lot of people don't but I can't see him being a bit part bench warmer.

Time to move him on and get a new powerhouse in midfeild.

WUM.

This is not the first thread on the subject.

However, in the circumstances both Gerrard and the Club have handled the situation the best they could have done at the time.

I think we have handled it the best we could of,theres no easy way to part with an iconic player

I don't see the conspiracy. Gerrard wanted more playing time, Rodgers had told him, confirmed by Gerrard himself, that he would be playing less and Gerrard decided he wishes to play more. I respect that. He's earned it. Pretty simple if you ask me.

What a great way to retire. 34 years of age off to pay in the sun and live like a king. Fair play to him.

I want to retire. I am 37 years old and have got no chance for years

Gerrard's wasn't good enough any more hence he wasn't offered a new deal.

He made it public, not the club.

The social media fascists strike again.

Don't you realise that you're not allowed to comment on here - only the people who are never off here are allowed to do that.

Disagree and you're a WUM. Nothing like good debate - and this site is nothing like it!

Oh that was supposed to be tagged on to Self-Righteous 1.

Not exactly true. He discussed the deal and was told he wouldn't be guaranteed playing time. If he was ok with that, he would have been offered a new deal, no doubt. His performances over the last two seasons show that he still has plenty to offer in some capacity.

See, I'm not too sure about that. I think despite Rodgers public praise of Gerrard and saying how much of a loss he will be, behind closed doors he may wanted Gerrard to leave for a number of justifiable reasons.

1.) Gerrard is such an influential figure at the club and sometimes you need to move these players to progress a club, bring in new ideas, let another player take over as captain,etc...

2.) Gerrads performances were not of the same standard. He simply wasn't good enough to be an automatic starter under Rodgers

3.) Rodgers didn't want to be the manager that forced a club legend like Gerrard out. It had to look like Gerrard made this decision on his own.

I wonder then did Liverpool/Rodgers purposely make a weak offer knowing full well that it would be refused?

Or maybe we are guilty of reading to much into it. For all we know, Gerrard might have already had set his sights on a trip to US. Who knows

Wild Rover has plenty of history. A known wum.

If by WUM you mean I have disagreed with some Liverpool supporters during debates on football issues then yeah, I'm guess I'm a WUM.

What on earth was I thinking...having a debate on a debating forum

Or perhaps (and more likely) you've decided to label me a WUM because I dared criticise your club, manager or players once?

Yeah, not just Liverpool fans who have called you a wum. As well you know.

True. But all that proves is what a sensitive lot you all are. Again, disagreeing with someone is not wumming.

No they offered him a 1 year deal like Chelsea did with Terry as they felt he may not be good enough for 3 seasons which is what he wanted.

Nice try to cause some controversy but it is not happening here today. I know you won't be happy with that as you love to have a good wum on our boards.

Controversy? Steady on lad. There's more controversial things going on in the world today than a Blackburn fan writing an article about Steven Gerrard.

I have two mates who are Liverpool fans and are divided on the issue. One believes Gerrard is being 'forced' out the other doesn't. My question was genuine. Apologies if I've offended anyone. Would love to know what I've said that's so offensive though

If you've offended anyone by writing what is a pretty reasonable article, they ought not be on a site like this with such a sensitive disposition.

I would suggest that you have been labeled a WUM because 99% of your comments are related to teams other than Blackburn Rovers FC - and most of them are argumentative.

There have been only four posts on your own clubs board since January 2015. So one would have to question your reasons for continuing to keep a profile or presence on this site.

I guess you have no home to go to. But as a hobo, maybe adopting a more pleasant attitude, would yield more positive responses from people.

As it stands Wild Rover, you are something of a joke figure on most of the boards.
