would Jose or Fergie win major honours with Spurs?

I really doubt it. I'd probably bet my house against it.

circumstance and luck play a big part in it all IMO

once you're known as a winner, you get more respect, better jobs at bigger clubs, and better players want to play for you (and beleive in you deserved or not)

Ferguson will probably win the league with Spurs.

Jose won the CL with both Porto and Inter, Pep won't win the CL with this Bayern side.

And yes pep will win back to back titles but the fact they bought their biggest rivals' 2 best players and significantly weakened them taints his success IMO.

Sir Bobby . Leave it out mate.

Jose only won the CL with Porto thanks to a bad ref v United (and I'm an ABU) and the easiest fixtures ever seen.

he's a brilliant manager, but I put a lot of that down to chance

Fergie only one the CL thanks to Bayern switching off in the last minute and a soggy pitch in Moscow. Most football is down to chance.

Sheva in Istanbul.

I wouldn't say most Stopyra

But it happens a lot more than people like to admit. Especially when it's their side that won.

True Kaiser. No one in the world would have bet on Schweini blowing that vital pen in 2012 (Everyone knew that Olic would miss)

You don't think winning the FA Cup and UEFA Cup when they were still considered worth winning as good achievements? With Ipswich Town i mean.

Not really, when you could have listed numerous other managers that won much, much more.

To be best is not only down to record. Personality, passion ,commitment and a sense of humour are also a part of the whole image. Thats why I would place Jose and Fergie above Pep on points.

The irony is everything the OP labelled at Pep could also be labelled at Jose

I can actually prove that I've always been, how shall we say not seduced, by Pep the way the rest of the football loving world seem to have been.

I didn't want him to replace Robbie, i don't want him now. In spite of his record.

I don't even believe his Barca team at their peak are the best ever, because i believe the Milan team of late 80s/early 90s would nullify their strengths and take themon the counter attack.

He's not. Mourinho is. Guardiola's good but until he builds a really good team himself its impossible to determine whether his achievements are due to his management or the quality of the teams he inherits.

Management isn't as easy as people think. You've got to get to the training ground early and set up the cones, get dumb players to do things you tell them, know about other teams (even the crap ones), tell the owner 'spot on' all the time and probably a bunch of other stuff we don't even know about.

So it's his fault the team he beat in the semi tonked Milan the round before, or that Real and Chelsea got beat by the team he comprehensively battered in the final? Or that Arsenal bottled it against a team they previously didn't lose to for nearly a decade?

The only reason he got an "easy" run was because the big boys were getting knocked out by these "easy" sides

Also this myth that Pep has had it set up for him is hilarious and reeks of lack of research.

Ferguson won 2 european cups with aberdeen. More of an achievement than winning the CL at United when you put in the perspective of budgets, ie hardly anything vs mega bucks.

So, I believe fergie would have won something even with Spurs.

posted on 17/4/15

I reckon Fergie would have got a couple of FA Cups / League Cups. He's an excellent manager.

Jose won back to back UEFA Cup and Champions League with Porto on a shoestring budget.

I'd like to see Pep do that.

Why do you have to prove something with an under dog to be considered great? Consistently doing well with the best isn't as easy as many make out - which is what made Fergie so great.
