This is why football is about more than stats.
Look, Coutinho shouldn't be nominated for POTY, everyone knows that, but it's a vote and footballers are dumb.
He has still been better than Di Maria though, and no amount of stats proves otherwise.
Coutinho is like Iniesta-lite. A player who has never been great for the stats men, but anyone who knows anything about football, and loves football in its purist form, knows that Iniesta is an incredible footballer.
********************************************************
^^^ This
I think dismissing ADMs stats by claiming he has played better is a cop out
You sign a AM to create chances and score goals- ADM has comfortably outperformed him in 3/4 of the time.
It's like signing a striker who "works hard" but doesn't score.
Iniesta? That's. A tad extreme example- you would be better using Carrick in that case.
I'm sorry but Utd were roundly criticised for negative football only creating one or two chances and being lucky
Liverpool were overly praised for their attacking football
Surely the Liverpool lad if he was that good would of smashed the stats??
These are cherry picked stats,
Coutinho should not have been voted in, i thinkits probably a case of football players short term memories, ADM was brilliant at the start of the season then petered out, Coutinho has improved massively recently.
This also doesnt show the other influence players have on a game though, key passes for instance, ball retention, ball winning, accurate passes, all of which coutinho is very good at.
you also have to allow for liverpools lack of a striker with the assists stat, with the chances created having a far smaller difference than the assists stat, it does illustrate the fact that liverpool have not had a noteworthy goal scorer all season
Lol, it's not all about the stats. Coutinho was quality for a part of the season (although he still doesn't deserve to be in the player of the year shortlist) whereas Di Maria's been disappointing.
Cherry picked?
How would you prefer to judge attacking players?
Distance covered?
Headers?
Clearances?
Also- the striker thing hardly counts for UTD where Falcao has been pants, RVP has been injured and Rooney has hardly been much better
You can make the argument that's why Favregas isn't in the PFA
This is like the recent Suarez/Ronaldo article, despite being presented with overwhelming stats in Ronaldo's favour, a lot of Scousers still argued Suarez was better because he is "unpredictable" and meg's people now and then
Nobody is saying Di Maria hasn't been disappointing and that Coutinho hasn't been quality, we're just saying that even despite this Di Maria's stat's are about twice as good as Coutinho's lal.
Di Maria is 26 and worth £60m.
Coutinho is 22 and worth £8m.
Of course his stats should be better.
Coutinho has still played better though. His level visible performance has been higher.
Di Maria played a lot better for Real last season than he has for Man Utd. He has maintained good stats, which is to his credit, but that doesn't mean he has played well.
But if he has created less chances
Scored less goals
Been in the pitch 25% more
Please explain how he has "played better"
If you mean those miserly stats represent him over performing then say so
What do the Mancs on this thread actually want?
Clearly the majority Liverpool fans on this thread have said they don't really feel Coutinho deserves to be POTY. The nominees are chosen by the players.
Maybe it's better if you don't petition this board, try petitioning the PFA or the PL players directly via social median.
Coutinho winding up mancs. Brilliant

Nobody "wants" anything
What this article was highlighting is that ADM has rightly been criticised from all angles for a indifferent season
Coutinho has been praised for his season
In cold hard facts ADMs season has produced more for his club, his performances have not been to his level but even his poor performances have created more for his club than Courinhos great performances
I mean look at this tripe
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/liverpool-fcs-philippe-coutinho-deserves-9061973
I guess my OP was to state how one mans good game is another mans bad game
Which this season it clearly is for ADM and Coutinho
Juan - comment deleted as this article is on the Liverpool board and they are welcome to their opinion
Otherwise what would be the point
Look Benji I'll put my hand in the air and admit to ADM being a better player than Coutinho as indicated by the stats.
If I had a twitter account, I would broadcast this. Maybe the other Liverpool fans will do the same. Even if 10Million of us did this, it wouldn't change anything.
.................. Blame it on the players
Maybe the players should ask their fans who they should be voting for before casting their vote.
Juan is wound up
This is on our board as well you utter cretin.
You can tell the people who actually watch football matches live and just watch on TV.
People who only watch on TV are obsessed with stats.
People who actually watch live football can tell when players are playing well and when they are not.
Stats are only part of any story.
Interesting article backed up with stats
5 stars.
Righteous
Correct- but my point is that ADM has had an awful season and Coutinho a great one apparently
But what you said is spot on
Interpretations make you think Coutinho has been great and ADM has been Shhite but in reality ADM has probably earned his team more points

Coutinho's performances for Liverpool have been far more valuable to us than ADM's have been to Utd. When we play well Coutinho is usually pulling the strings. OK he's not big on the stats side of things but he makes our teams tick where as 50million plus ADM is not good enough to start regularly for Utd.
I suspect the players who nominated Coutinho have seen that too and regard him as the better player as a result, it's all subjective but the votes from the players are clear to see.
It's even nicer to think it annoys the Utd fans. You would get more credit just coming out and congratulating the lad for his achievement to be held in such high regard by his fellow pros.

lol fair enough, didn't see that it was on their board. Point still stands about them constantly being on our board though.
No Liverpool fans are saying Coutinho has had a great season though.
He has been excellent from Jan-April, both in performance and stats.
Before Jan he ranged from mediocre to very poor.
It's not our fault his peers have voted him as player of the year.
