Academy rules are changing so that geographical location isn't as important as it is now.
It's a shocking move in all honesty that the lf clubs have effectively been blackmailed into.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could you elaborate, on the blackmail?
It would be a strange move to allow clubs to scout the nation, that rule was put in place to protect the children. Even today you see kids living away from their families to attend training ect.
The best move would be to allow clubs to coach young players properly, with no restrictions on the time they can train them.
Weare are you still offering JA posters out for a Barney outside Corals where you live ?
A lot of people want to talk about Arsenal. We put ourselves in a difficult financial position and the way we managed that has been outstanding. We could have easily won the league in 2008 and 2011 and we managed to keep ourselves at Europe's top table whilst also selling players for large profits. Our youth policy has allowed us to maintain a level that we would not have otherwise been able to do. It's also worth pointing out that we're the only club out of the traditional top four to never have dropped out of it, ironically.
However, does this make us the best run club? Our ticket prices are the highest in Europe and we should a couple of Mickey Mouse trophies at least over the last eight years. Even Tottenham and Liverpool managed that, though it seems less scandalous now we've won the FA Cup and are favourites to retain it. Our injury issues have only recently been addressed and our youth system has faltered, leading to relegation. Our inability to move on players with high wages such as Bendtner, Denilson and Arshavin has cost us at times.
United is the traditional place to start. However, they did not manage SAF's retirement particularly well. Moyes was a silly manager to choose and his sacking can only been seen as a failure by the club as much as the man himself. To United's credit, however, they have done a fantastic job of changing the face of the club. Fellaini, Mata, Di Maria, Falcao, Herrera, Blind, Rojo and co are the right kind of signings. Under SAF average players consistently over performed as a team. This was obviously going to stop happening once he left. United needed some galacticos, as they were short of them.
In my mind, being the biggest doesn't necessarily make you the best. West Ham's capture of the Olympic Stadium, for example, is a coup. Tottenham are well run. Liverpool are hilarious. £35m on Andy Carroll is a sin. That's what we spent on Sanchez and what Chelsea spent on Fabregas.
Until this season, Everton would have been in with a shout.
There is no contest AFC is by far and away, the best run football club overall. Utd required ahalf billion pound bail out to avoid bankruptcy and given the earning power of the club in the time they accrued the debt, this is an absolute travesty of financial mismanagement. On that point alone Utd can't possibly be the best run club, or anywhere near it.
As for the rest, the very fact that everyone is basing their model on the one Arsenal put in place many years ago, should be enough to tell everyone we are the best run club. If we weren't then why would everybody try to copy our way of doing it.
