To be honest, there isn't much choice out there for strikers. Depay and Ings would be perfect, because it seems we can get them done and dusted very quickly.
Darren, Depay would certainly remedy your lack of real pace up front. The guy's rapid!
Milner I like, would happily take him as he'd improve the first XI no doubt.
Like I said Ings isn't a bad player, and would offer more than Borini. But he's injury prone and not really a first team striker. We already have Origi coming in as a squad player.
Money spent on Ings (we'd still have to pay compensation to Burnley even if he's out of contract) could be better spent elsewhere (like the wages on a striker to compete with Studge) with Yesil/Sinclair taking his spot.
Agree with pretty much everything you said about Depay
Yep we need some pacy players that know where the net is.
With Gerrard, Johnson and maybe Lambert going. We need those English names in the squad, and I think Ings is worth the hassle of a couple of million. He has the right attitude and could be a strong head that we need in the dressing room for relatively cheap.
Liverpool will probably need a squad striker, or two, anyway with Lambert, Borini and Balotelli not looking like they have much of a future.
Ings would probably be a good signing in that regard. Though I guess it depends on whether or not he'd be prepared for such a role.
I've read he wants to move to a team that can help in improve him and where he'd get games so he may want first team football.
Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up at Southampton. He's better than Pelle.
With Sturridge's injury record, and Divock Origi being unproven, then he has a great chance of getting games here. We sure do need another £20m to £30m striker this window!

That's true. Though I suppose it depends on whether you go for a striker with a bigger reputation that'd put question marks over his game time.
If we aren't going to sign a marque striker I actually wouldn't mind United signing Ings as a squad striker.
If he joins us I can see Ings getting a fair few games because of Sturridge's injuries and I can't see Origi hitting the ground running - he still seems very raw.
I'd love to see Lacazette come in but that's the stuff of dreams with no CL football on offer. If the price was right I wouldn't mind taking a punt on Luciano Vietto at Villarreal but there's no guarantee that he'd adapt and we already have a young prospect in Origi.
Gignac is available on a free.
If all else fails I bet we will end up paying over the odds on someone like Benteke, which I just hope doesn't happen!
We could sign a whole team of free signings... haven't seen a thread like that in a while!
El-Toro - I'm never sure about Benteke. I just get the feeling that he wouldn't fit our style of play and we would end up flogging him for a massive loss a year later like Keane, Carroll, Downing, etc
Yeah totally agree. At the moment he's doing amazing at Villa down to Sherwood getting the ball to him as quick as possible (lumping it upto him).
I just hope our recruitment team stay strong and the sign the types of players we need, and not go frantic again and trying to sign everyone and anyone e.g Balotelli and Carroll
...btw I mean Sherwood's tactics, and not him personally getting the ball to Benteke directly He's been good, but not that good
Villa have played some good football on the deck under Sherwood, to be fair.
They outplayed City last week and it wasn't all hoofing it.
I'd worry more about Benteke's injuries than anything.
I get what you mean. Just think a lot of Benteke's strengths come from the air, which just isn't our style. The way they used his height against us in the FA Cup showed how Sherwood is getting the best out of him.
As you say...plus the injuries, then he's not worth what Aston Villa would be asking for him
I think he's pretty decent on the ground, personally, better than Lukaku, for example.
But I know where you are coming from. And definitely agree he's not worth what Villa would want.
I think there is an assumption that new players are always better in their second season which doesn't really ring true.
Some new players are better in their 2nd season after an average first season, some stay average, some get worse.
This idea that all our new players will be better next season is rubbish to be honest. Some will, some won't.
Some players average first season turns out to be as good as it gets.

I think Rodgers needs to think long and hard about "his" style of play. His style of play is very good against offensive sides but against defensive sides we have looked toothless this season.
All we do is zig zags outside the pen box and then give the ball away. We need a forward who has more to his game than work yard ethic and pace because that can be nullified.
We either need someone with some skill like Suarez mould or we need a physical presence who is good in the air. Not talking about one dimensional players like Carroll or Lambert. This so called big man has to be the complete package.
I'm not even sure what his style of play is anymore.
We have not seen a coherent style this season.
We should be all out for Higuain. £40m I reckon.
For me it's two issues that worry me and make me think disaster.
1st is recruitment. Let's be honest it has been a disaster. Rodgers has signed 24 players in his time who is confident in saying yeah he is going to be world class. Couthino and Can. In my opinion those two but I know others may include Sturridge and Sterling to that list. However, we all can agree that overall recruitment will be vital this summer for any future with Rodgers in charge of us.
2nd is pivotal games. In short must win games! The games where the chips are down and we have to get a result no matter how badly we play. I find under Rodgers we lose these type of games. We put ourselves in a great position then fall apart when we need to be brave and take the bull by the horns. This has happend now in the last two seasons. Simply we get found out and whimper away back into the shadows of being content with results over teams lower in the table.
For me those are the two majour issues that could be seen as tipping the scale towards Disaster. If Klopp is available get him as I feel he will help in those two departments. If he is not. Then keep BR and give him one more season to prove he is the right man to lead us.
