Who is he?

Not a bad footballer - he's technically sound, good touch and a good passer.

But he's just ineffective. He offers virtually nothing going forwards, hasn't got great vision to regularly set up attacks from deep, doesn't protect the defence or press particularly well, and is weak and gets shrugged off the ball pretty easily. Add to that he's injury prone and takes a while to get into some form.

He's useful for certain games and off the bench to help keep possession and close out games, but I would sell him if a reasonable offer (£10m) came in and upgrade. If we do sign Milner he can play CM as well.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

That's his problem.

He's not a bad player, he can have very good games, but overall he doesn't doesn't influence a game often enough and is too easily dominated. A decent squad player at best.

The fact that Rodgers paid £26m for him and Borini is a bad sign for those who want Rodgers to have more control over transfers. Does he actually know enough about good players to give him that control?

The evidence is hardly strong in his favour.

He looked decent at Swansea but he hasn't been able to to make the step up. IMO he's another victim of Rodgers still not knowing his best eleven and most effective formation.

He's a safety first, continuity type player. This is handy in some games, but against teams we need to break down, he can struggle.

He never really controls a game. He just does the simple things, all of the time, even when there are more progressive options to take.

No
too many players for us don't do much wrong but they also don't do anything right...Allen is right up there with this crew

The engine room needs a lot of work this summer. We have been overwhelmed in quite a few games this season. Not good for a manager who wants to play a possession game.

Joe Average.

Had a good game against City once.

He is a bit like this thread...

not good enough really to incite to much comment and not bad enough to cause outrage.

posted on 13/5/15

he's a squad player who when fully fit can do a bit but he's bang average for the prem.

He brings little to the table against the better sides

He's just pointless. Simple as that.

Gets way more stick than he deserves. I really like Allen and like seeing him against the weaker teams and he's a calmness personified sometimes in midfield.

Perhaps if the fans weren't constantly on his back he might be more successful. The new scapegoat at LFC.

The new scape goat??

He's a solid player who passes the ball well but he's not good enough, he has missed sitters to win big games and we need better!

I think he was bought because Rodgers really wanted to play tonnes of possession in a 4-3-3, patient build up style. And he's very good at keeping things ticking over and is really difficult to take the ball off him.

but, that style failed and finding other purposes for him hasn't worked out other than as squad cover.

The worrying thing for Liverpool is that Joe Allen thinks he's made it at Liverpool
If this is the type of player that has made it at Liverpool then we don't have much to look forward to
He's not being'made a scapegoat at all
The scapegoat has been Balotelli who has had 1 season with us compared to Allen who has had 3 seasons
They were both similar priced but one has done nothing this season and the other who has done nothing for 3 seasons
Is it a British player thing?
Kiss kiss lick lick

He'll get a new contract you know.

He's ok as a squad player but nothing more
Emre Can is already ahead of him in the midfield stakes
