In one of those seasons he won the CL. I think most clubs would take that.
Benny failed because the owners fkd him over. Under fsg i can see him doing brilliantly tbh.

Why do people keep banging on about Benitez?
He's off to Real Madrid, been widely reported...

He should have never been allowed to leave. But there we go that's the Liverpool story over the few years. Quality players and quality managers have left and mediocrity brought in to replace it.
I don't know ARE, since Rodgers has come in Only Suarez have we replaced a player for worse and that was always going to happen considering only Ronaldo and Messi would be an improvement.
The grass is always greener. Rafa had a much better team than Rodgers to be fair and his record in the transfer windows were pretty awful.
As much as I love a lal, you haven't done badly given your squad.
Yes, some of your signings didn't work out but let's be honest, a majority of you were hopeful that Balo would be a worth while gamble and that players like Markovic and Can were very promising.
I didn't see many, if any Liverpool fans complaining about your business at the time, you can't now just turn back and say Rodgers made terrible decisions. I remember a majority being pretty excited about the season to come with the likes of Lallana, Marko, Can, Balotelli etc
Those signings, along with the assumption that Sturridge and Sterling would kick on and improve left a lot of you optimistic and I was slightly concerned tbf
He hasn't got everything right but I don't see the value in just binning Rodgers. Give him at least until December IMO
Rafa was ace with transfers. We didn't get that class, CL and prem challenging side in a raffle.

I wouldn't say he was ace. He was hit and miss. Some were wonderful. Others were Alberto Aquilani.
If being hit and miss is a criticism, no manager has ever been good at them.
Hmm I'd say he was fairly average when it came to transfers although that would be an improvement on recent times for Liverpool.
I don't think a team could compete at the very top and be ranked number one in Europe of it had a manager who was average at transfers.
agreed TOOR
they were called average at the time because of club rivalry, but in the end the bulk of the one's who actually cost money ended up at Chelsea, Barca, Real, Bayern and won leagues and CLs.
It was funny how many players weren't very good until they left then suddenly they were world class.

First eleven with Benitez signings. Not bad at all

Benitez might not want to come back unless given a minimum 3 year contract, a big paycheck and control of a large transfer fund?
I'd say he made up for his weaknesses in the transfer market with his strengths elsewhere, it certainly wasn't his strong point.
He signed some good players no doubt but a lot of bad and average ones as well...
Pointless to bring players he wanted to get into this otherwise Arsene is the worlds greatest manager at transfers considering all the great players he tried to sign but failed.
I don't think Rafa was/is great in the market.
He is not awful but it's not a big strength of his either.
His biggest strength are game management, organisation and instilling a winning mentality.
Every manager can have a list of top players they wanted but couldn't sign.
Rafa would never accept working with the transfer committee. He is an autocrat and would want complete control of transfers.
Yeah I'd agree with those strengths R1, I always rated him even when he was mocked (by non-Liverpool fans) before his time at Chelsea which I think brought people round. You can't argue with his record.

This is true.
Depends on what FSG do though.
Their end of season review might lead to a complete change of structure, who knows.
I certainly hope so. The club's muddled transfer process worries me more than the managerial position.
Ppd
There is no way one penny should be spent until the process that made those dreadful signings in the summer is torn up.
I hope FSG step in quick and sweep away the old management and selection committee and install Klopp. Failing that Rafa or Ancelotti.
