Taiwan 1 - 1 FC Pride
Fabregas (Son); PEA (Robben)
MOTM: Koscienly
Slots: Ludy 7+1, Pride 3, Draw 2
The home side is unlucky not to take the spoils today, they took a risk with what appears to be a new formation which gave them control of the centre of the pitch, and in turn, the game.
Fabregas took the first goal of the game very well, Son slipped deep, finding himself without a marker around him - The false no.9 working perfectly here - Fabregas moved forward to step into the space left behind, and as Pride's defence stepped up to meet Son, the ball was shuffled through to Fabregas who simply passed it home.
The game was fairly one way, with Pride simply unable to bring in their front three. But a slip in the 60th minute from Coutinho (evidently learning from the best of slippers) handed Pirlo the ball. Ludy's defence was pushed forward, and a pinpoint ball over the top exposed the space left behind them which the pace of Robben and PEA exploited marvellously. Two well timed runs left them 2-on-1 with Cech, who saw the ball passed across him by Robben, for PEA to tap into an open net.
The game ended as such.
One point I think is worth pulling up, Ludy, I thought you got a lot into your tactics, but the pattern was a bit back and forth, I'd try and shorten it and order it slightly better. Secondly, maybe think about which players play on which side - Like you said with Coleman, he gets forward a lot, his strengths are definitely going forward. As such, I'd swap Matic and Alonso, it gives a bit more defensive solidity on the right hand side which is definitely the weakest in that respect
Pride, good tactics as always, just so happens that they played into Ludy's strengths today

Tricky game to call. Both sides are young, quick, energetic and easy on the eye. Cambuur looked to hold onto the ball a bit further forward than Tenby whose DMs were protectors first and foremost. I fancied both sets of wingers to have a bit of joy against their opposite numbers - Deulofeu and Tello on their day can give most FBs a good game, and Di's progressive full backs would've left spaces for LC's quick wide men to exploit, with Deulofeu and Tello perhaps not the best at offering cover.
The issue was getting the ball out of a congested midfield, though. Plenty of hard workers in that area. The play did pulse back and forth but the ball spent more time in the middle than I think either manager wanted, and really good chances were at a premium with the wingers perhaps trying a touch too hard on the occasions they did get a sniff.
In the end it was a set-piece that did for the home side, Mammana thumping home a header from Imbula's lofted free kick on 71 minutes. Tenby didn't do much wrong and frankly they can rightly feel hard done by in a very even game; on another day with less punishing injuries up front they may have had the rub of the green, but emergency loanee Danny Ings wasn't at the races today and Cambuur held out.

There's not many teams in either league that look better on paper than Mex's Notts Co side, but today they were up against a team that couldn't really be better suited to counter them. Fan's dangerous Miami side are powerful and direct throughout, the steel to Notts' silk. The home team were set up to dominate possession and play their way through, the away team set up to stand tall and strong and go straight for goal incisively. It seemed to me that the home team might edge it in terms of chances created, whereas Miami would have a few quality chances - such is the way when a Barca-esque team gets caught out on the break.
Miami were in Notts' faces from the word go, but they had a hard time getting the ball for 30-odd minutes, and eventually the pressure told, Reus and Alexis combining to set Icardi through on goal. He flummoxed Koulibaly and drew the keeper before squaring it for Herrera to tap in. Beautiful play and a deserved goal on 34 minutes.
Miami hit straight back though, Andre Gomes letting Pogba off the leash; the Frenchman charged through Verratti and thumped one in off the bar from 30 yards. No stopping those ones. 1-1, 37 mins.
The second half followed the same pattern and Thiago and Icardi went very close. The home side were getting frustrated and Mex went for the throat, before Alexis looked to be brought down by Koulibaly in the box; the ref waved play on, though, and Koulibaly launched one forwards towards Benteke.
He challenged Gimenez in the air near halfway and the defender misjudged it, the ball skimming off his head into his own half. Benteke reacted quicker, scooting forwards to charge at goal. Marquinhos was quick getting back and Bernat was getting round to cover, but Benteke shrugged Marquinhos off like a rag doll and bore down on De Gea, who brought the rampaging Belgian down for a penalty. The contact was very minimal and Mex was apoplectic on the sidelines having seen a better shout turned down just before. De Gea stayed on the pitch - potentially luckily, to complete a terrible 30 seconds for the Ref, LRF.
Benteke stepped up and pinged the pen into the corner. 1-2 Miami, 85 minutes. Notts pushed hard but no luck. Huge result in D2.

Southend 1-2 Fiorentina
Sturridge (Welbeck); Iniesta (Ibrahimovic), Illarramendi (Iniesta)
Slots: Southend 3+1, the Italians 7, Draw 3
MOTM: Iniesta
Another game which was decided very much in the middle. In the end it was the Tino's side who came out on top, much to the chagrin of the Southend home crowd, who felt that the referee was far too lenient towards the hard hitting duo of Inler and De Jong.
However, it was against the run of play that the goal was scored. Tino, in my opinion, did Tippy's winger-forwards, and FBs, a slight disservice, and probably could've done with issuing less cavalier instructions to his FBs. As it was, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Welbeck both found themselves in space out wide, which dragged Fiorentina's CBs further apart than they perhaps would've liked, Welbeck then received the ball, and before Lichsteiner could come crashing back, whipped in a cross for Sturridge to slam home on the full volley.
Tino's men were in shock until after half time (it's rumoured Tino made them all beds for the break, then put horses heads in all of them...). But out they came with renewed vim and vigour. A quick ball from Inler to Ibrahimovic, controlled in a way that only Zlatan can, was trapped and lifted to Iniesta who had made a run into space left behind Terry who had stepped forward to meet Ibra. Andreas Iniesta then steered it underneath Trappy's keeper's desperate charge off his line.
The winner came from a bit of Spanish passing. Iniesta and Illarramendi traded several passes, each knocking it five yards closer to goal, then from 25 yard Illarramendi bended a beautiful shot - not too powerful, but utterly accurate and unchartable in flight - into the far corner. Buffon was taken completely by surprise, but even so, if it hadn't been so perfectly placed, he probably would've got to it.
The game ended thus.
Points: Trappy, I felt that the tactics could cut down on the descriptions of the players, and perhaps focus on what their role is, tying in their talents to this.
Tino, it works, it really does. But I'd be careful with the flying FBs tactics - But having played the diamond earlier too, I can understand how difficult it is to add some width to a naturally narrow system
