I can imagine watching it in the cinema and just going there for a pure cinematic experience might be ok....but it just did nothing for me...........originals rule for me.

Biggish my main problem with Fury Road is that it's more of a Furiosa movie than a Mad Max movie I thought.

Mad Max was in the movie and had a big part but he didn't feel like the main character in the movie. The movie starts off with a lot of Mad Max but as soon as Furiosa turns up it basically becomes her movie and her story.

Calling the movie Mad Max: Fury Road felt slightly misleading to me.

Thought it was a good film. Not as amazing as some people made out, but solid overall. Let down i felt by a somewhat okish story. But beautifully shot with great stunts, even more epic knowing there is very little cgi.

Talking about Mad Max what the heck is the point in some Oscars? Everyone saying wow mad max won loads of em, but christ they were all for the same thing! Sound mixing and sound editing?!? Best costume anc best make up??

Yeah I liked it too....first saw it on the plane back from hols along with Terminator Genysis

Both were pretty decent...& better for seeing on the HD telly at home

aha, but it won best editing.. that's a big deal.
use to be that, that award was indicator for best film or director. not so much today.
but even up to the last minute i wasn't sure who'd win best film or director, purely of the way the show went..

Yup the lack of CGI or at least much reduced amount of CGI was very refreshing to see even though I agree that the movie itself is overrated.

The overuse of CGI these days is exactly why I've been going through my phase of watching loads of good 70's movies instead.

So nice to watch movies without excessive CGI or any of it at all as it too often takes you out of the movie experience.

now CGI is a touchy topic.... the only reason we hate on it, is when its done badly. it takes you out the moment.
with Fury Road, there were a ton of CG, but it was expertly done.
most of the car sequences were done for real, but there was green screen.
Hardy bouncing on a pole from left to right of screen during that epic explosion for instance.
he was in a car park, stationary.
that's why from a technical point, they deserved awards..

Nearly every film has some form of cg... Social network, when they are breathing, the cold air they blow is cg!!
you have to ask Fincher why?

now the Ghostbusters thing I'm finding funny.
cos i was complaining about cast chemistry, and my mate was moaning about CG?!.. but it's ghostbusters.

but your right, they don't make 'em like the 70s.

Stringer yup there undoubtedly was CG in Fury Road but it was done well. Also done in a way where you weren't constantly taken out of the movie experience thinking to yourself that you've just watched a load of excessive and badly done CG which is sadly the case with so many movies these days.

There's a right way of doing CG and a wrong way and too many movies these days are getting it all wrong.

Regarding Ghostbusters it's probably getting an excessive amount of hate but I just think people are sick of seeing these bloated cgi-fests with surprisingly poor special effects.

Worse still when they take a much loved classic movie and basically just make a worse remake of the original and expect to make loads of money from it.

I think that the tide is turning and the movie going public just aren't going to stand for it anymore hence why this Ghostbusters remake will tank at the worldwide box office.

Not that we should care how much money a movie makes, I just want to see good movies regardless of that.

totally agree, how many gems out there, that were considered B.O flops?
but unfortunately we need them to make money... but they have shown go with a smaller budget (dead pool). and they would be in a healthy place.
i mean gods of egypt!! 140 mill budget, 14 mill opening weekend. that's outrageous!
now films are making billions in just a few months, some are making real bad decisions, putting unnecessary pressure on themselves...
Ghostbusters has a sense from the trailer of just ticking boxes.. the Times Square scene, product placement porrn.
just give us good characters and a good story dammit!!
the rest will follow...

Stringer exactly. I couldn't care less about how much a movie makes and it's kind of sad seeing the movie going public get dragged into caring when really it has nothing to do with us.

As a work of art a movie should be judged on it's own merit, not on it's box office takings. I guess that's why there's almost nothing original coming out of Hollywood these days.

As you say it's all about box ticking and trying to appeal to what they think most appeases the mass market at that particular moment. Very soulless and robotic really.

2nd favorite for me. Nothing will ever come close to The Wire. It's depth and relevance is out of this world
