Not sure where I sit with this Blade Runner sequel.

Now there's certainly enough quality behind the camera, and in front. Denis Villeneuve is getting into the forefront of some big productions now and with good reason too with his impressive previous work (Dune next on the horizon).
Roger Deakins is a fine cinematographer in his own right, with me first appreciating his work on Radford’s adaptation of 1984,starring the late great John Hurt. The eccentric Hampton Fancher comes back on writing duties.
The abundance in quality is clear.

Focusing more on Villeneuve, what might have helped here is his versatility.
On one hand Denis can produce intimate visual films with big concepts such as his 2013 effort Enemy ,a film that brought comparisons with Fancher's original draft for Blade Runner. A film focusing more on the interior than the exterior ,while being far more psychological .(As we know Ridley Scott went against such claustrophobic setting and proceeded in expanding the world outside of the confines of the various apartments and characters and in doing so ,with help from great Artist's such as Mead and Giraud, produced one of the most referential films of our times ,visually speaking atleast).
And on the other hand Denis is also capable of expanding outside such visually small concepts while creating your archetypal big summer blockbuster with his 2016 effort Arrival.

And the two biggest factors ,for me atleast as a viewer, is that those two films have, alongside his other efforts, a thought provoking narrative with identifiable characters who have substance alongside visual depth.
And now my only hope is we get the same with Blade Runner 2049.

With Denis Villeneuve background in producing provoking works the idea that this new iteration of Blade Runner (which now may start becoming a franchise money maker ) wont enhance upon the previous films big themes are/is absurd but are we going to see something fresh and original ?

I enjoyed it

Probably helped in my case though I haven't seen the Tim Curry version so had nothing to compare it to. Guy I saw it with had the opposite, thought this version was played too much for cheap scares by comparison

Fair enough, I've seen the originals but usually go and see remakes with an open mind.

Does it drag? Seems quite a long running time for a 'cheap scares' horror movie?

I thought it did drag on a bit but then I seem to have that issue with alot of films at the moment. Can't say it left me bored or desperate to leave as other films have though

My friend's comment was that this version lacked the subtlety of the original. Thought it was decent in its own right but that the Tim Curry version will always be superior

Well considering he suffered a stroke in 012 I would find it amazing if we see him perform to any standard again, not that we as a audience should because of those unfortunate events.

IT is fantastic. Never felt it dragged and in no way other than Tim Curry was the original better. The original felt like a cheesy Lifetime film.

It's not perfect but it did a stellar job at making you feel those kids were really friends, just regular kids and dealing with some heavy shlt. The town of Derry is the real problem and menace. And this film portrayed that so much better than the crap made for the version.

People just like to say the original is better because it's the original and of course Tim Curry. But it's not at all. This new version of IT captures the feeling I remember having while reading the novel.

Only problems I had were the over usage of CGI and some of the heavy handed music selections for the score.
