I ask ths question as i watched the martian over the weekend, good movie overall but pretty poor when in comparison with the book. Although the adaptation was ok i felt they missed so much,
-------------------------------
Bit disappointed to hear that Simon. I was hoping that The Martian was going to be really good, especially as I didn't rate Interstellar at all and wanted to see a better space movie.
Then again if you're saying it's still good that's something. Is it worth dragging my ass to the cinema for?
Did anyone ever watch the Danny Boyle film set in space called Sunshine? I think it went a little under the radar and a film I’d highly recommend if you’ve not seen it. I tend to find a lot of films set in outer space a bit Hollywood and overly cheesy with all the ‘whooping’ from ‘Euston’ but Sunshine is really quite refreshing. It feels striped back by comparison, leaves a lot of the bs clichés out, has a good narrative and has some stunning cinematography . Worth watching in HD on a big screen and some good speakers.
Droog, yeah I really enjoyed Sunshine as well. Excellent movie and very atmospheric. Kind of old fashioned in many ways but in a good way, ie the pacing of the movie.
Strange that a lot of people didn't see Sunshine, even sci-fi fans.

Its the best film i have watched in the last few months without a doubt, i feel it does help if you have read the book as there were some gapping holes, but i will be honest there is a scene with sean bean that is more or less worth the ticket price itself Great performance from Matt Damon, and a nice blend of suspense and comedy

Is Everest any good? Half thinking of seeing that on Saturday
ohh crap! this can't be true.
Die Hard 6?! set in 1979?! No Bruce Willis.
Len 'Hack' `Wiseman to direct!!
someone needs shooting!!!!
Say what ??
How much cocaine was snorted before someone came up with that terrible idea?
Let me guess Jason Statham will play Harry McClane, John's equally badass Dad
Thought Martian was good. Started great then fell into a super hollywood climax. Not bad at any stretch though. Damon was great.
Why is mission impossible 4 never on Sky...
All the others are...bizarre
Rtm dont get me wrong very good film, but just a pretty poor adaptation imo. But best film i have watched, maybe all year......
the Rumour is to top and tail the film with willis and the rest of the film is flashback.
interesting.... in its crapness. McClane wasn't the supercop until Nakatomi. what the hell happened in 1979, when he was at University I guess.... and Len Hack Wiseman.
After he blamed the audience for 'Not getting it', and being too nostalgic for Arnie's total recal!!
Nostalgic!! Nostalgic?! you hack, why the hell did you keep referencing Paul Verhonans film then?!
you muppet!!
He needs to GTFO of Hollywood!!!

Just think of it as 'inspired by' instead of 'adaption'.
Sorted

Fascinatingly awful.
I must have seen all the other Die Hard movies about a 100 times in total and I still can't get myself to watch number 5.
There is nothing left to do with the John McClane character. The idea of a prequel just reeks of desperation.
Speaking of action heroes I recently heard that Spielberg wants to do another Indy movie with Harrison Ford.
I'm assuming that Ford will only briefly feature as older Indy looking back to his younger days and that the movie centres around Chris Pratt as Indy in his prime.
Unlike the John McClane character they can do just about anything they want with the Indy character and various storylines.

I was left pleasantly surprised enough at the 4th film to give film 5 a go (or download it anyway). Shouldn't have bothered though, worst follow up since Taken 2
I couldnt watch Die Hard 5 past 15 minutea. It was dreadful
I need to find a good excuse not to see Suffragette (the gf is very keen though), does it make me a raving sexist when.I say I have absolutely no interest at all in?

In my opinion it makes you a perfectly normal person who doesn't feel like pandering to all the overly pc bull crap we have to put up with these days.
Good to hear others found Die Hard 5 unwatchable. I've tried twice to watch it and on both occasions couldn't get any further than about ten minutes into the movie before switching it off.
Had the same problem with Taken 2, had to switch it off about halfway through because it was that daft.
How did a Taken 3 get made?
