There was a very clear drop-off in quality when they got past the books. Most of the ideas were fine the execution was not.

Yes, they left a cup of Starbucks in the shot. I thought it was some sort of genius contemporary art type of thing, but no, it was just a feck up and nobody noticed.

As an editor I would be distraught if I missed that….
Editor is the last line of defence as it were, and just like AWB, just went to sleep.

Recently rewatched the original Star Wars trilogy and TLOR trilogy. TLOR is easily better in every way., not even close. But I have to give Star Wars credit for groundbreaking film techniques, amazing stuff. .

SW original trilogy has a few things it does better than the LOTR.

1. The music by John Williams
2. Better chemistry between the main characters
3. A more compelling villain
4. Practical effects at the time were groundbreaking.
5. Reached a wider audience and had a bigger global impact.

I love LOTR and Fellowship is one of my favourite movies of all time. SW holds a special place in my heart mainly due to nostalgia and the amazement of watching the originals in the 80s. I fell in love with the characters, the world, the story. I grew up wanting to have a lightsaber and be a jedi. I just don't have that level of emotion towards LOTR.

First off, LotR has aboot 5/6 hrs more runtime.
Plenty time to flesh out characters and build the story.
They had great source material to refer to.

Lucas was a one man army, and he was a true genius..

Star Wars will always be in a realm of its own.
When done right, SW is the undisputed King.
But Jackson’s trilogy is phenomenal, no doubt.

But I will always be a SW guy, cos that’s a Galaxy of unlimited imagination with a wealth of Stories to tell.
