Of course all clubs leak things to the press. What I am saying is that every comment Sterling and his agent make to the public, right or wrong, alienates him further from the club/fans.

Man City's bid was derisory and deserved to be knocked back.

Especially 24 hours after we heard Pellegrini was to be given a blank cheque.

Hand the blank cheque over, we'll write it out for ya!

Yes, a £30m bid for Sterling is "derisory"...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is, United paid that amount for Rooney who was a similar type of player age and potential-wise, over a decade ago...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Sterling has half as good a career as Rooney then a) his buying club will be delighted and b) I will be amazed.

But we can all cherry pick transfers to suit our argument - Carroll cost more than Fabregas/Silva/Hazard, so must be the better player - but if a £30m bid for Sterling is apparently insulting how about a £10m bid for Clyne?

Compared to the city manager saying he'd cost 3x that?

Course it is.

So your argument essentially boils down to the fact that Liverpool are reliant on players in their team? Shocker that...
..........................

I had people starting arguments with me for suggesting so, so apparently to some it is a shock.

..............................................
The blame for the failures in various competitions doesn't lie solely on him. But, had he played a blinder and the team stunk the place out around him, and lost despite his efforts, then no-one would begrudge him a move.
.....................................

Which is why he wants to leave, to advance in those competitions Sterling would have needed to play much better.

He wants to win trophies and compete in the CL but at Liverpool he needs to play brilliantly for this to happen, a club like City that are already winning trophies and playing in the CL he doesn't, as long as he plays well enough to keep his spot he can enjoy those rewards whereas at Liverpool he would need to play really well and still then may not even achieve it.

So City should have offered, say, £80m? That would have been acceptable?

Blimey, you lot really do want it both ways, you slate the player for his recent performances, claim that him leaving is no problem because Coutinho/Ibe/Sinclair are all going to be world class, and then sulk when City don't immediately wade in with a £50m bid.

So, you're basically saying it's ok for him to go and do the bare minimum at a club and pick up the rewards?

to do well in the aforementioned competitions, we would've had to be the likes of Basle, Ludogorets and Aston Villa. To beat them, no-one in our team would have to play "brilliantly." They'd have had to put in a competent, professional performance. which very few of our team managed, Sterling being one of the main culprits, especially against Villa.

I reckon Sterling will sign for around 100k a week at his next club and Liverpool will end up looking a bit silly

posted on 12/6/15

City will offer £35m and Liverpool will still say no, after which it'll be upped to £40m and then a deal will be done.

What has it to do with other clubs anyway?

posted on 12/6/15

I doubt all the negative press was helping his performances.

Where did I say that?

I just pointed out he would need to do very little in order to win trophies and play CL in that team, certainly less so than he would at Liverpool.

Which is exactly why he wants to go a team with other players who will put in those performances and on a more regular basis. He wants to be able to have off days and have others step up to the plate rather than things come crashing down because he isn't playing brilliantly.

Or to put it another way:

Unless you play out of your skin and, or, at the moments of out choosing (not that Suarez and Torres really did this in trophy winning sides), then it's not ok for you to leave to a better team.

Unless you don't want to leave, like Coutinho, so we can pretend that we'd have no problems with you leaving, despite failing similarly, because you played well for a few months and somehow made team of the year.

Why has an article about a Liverpool player's potential transfer to Manchester City attracted so many United and Arsenal fans? Bizarre.

We're just relieved that Sterling is no longer being linked with us.

posted on 12/6/15

City IMO will come in with a take it or leave it offer between 30-35 million. If Liverpool don't accept they will struggle to find a club to bid higher IMO.

Sterling with the help of BR has burnt the bridge and City know this , so Liverpool aren't in as strong of a position as you might think. I'd be very surprised if City offered anything over 35 million.

I'd love Sterling at United, said sometime ago before this whole contract thing started that he was the only player at Liverpool I was really jealous of, think the kids got great potential.

posted on 12/6/15

Liverpool are under no obligation to sell; so if we don't get an offer that makes us inclined to sell then we won't sell. We did exactly that 2 years ago with Suarez why is this any different other than the fact Sterling isn't a hundredth the player Suarez is and never will be.

posted on 12/6/15

Yeah I'd love him at United as well.

posted on 12/6/15

The only problem with not selling him this summer will be his contract going from 2 years to 1 year combined with the dislike that has built up in the Liverpool fanbase. I wouldn't suggest that you should sell him at any particular price, you do what you like.

It'll be a risky game over the summer though, if you reject too many bids you could end up stuck with him.

You're both focussing on this "playing brilliantly" idea. All we're asking for is respectable performances. Whilst he's not alone in this, some of his performances this season have been utterly dreadful.

But apparently, the two of you can only see "bad" or "brilliant." A solid 7 out of 10 from the whole team, Raheem included, would've seen us into the second round of the CL and the A Cup Final.

End of the day, if you can't perform in the big games, a big move probably isn't the wisest move.

True you don't have to sell but do you want a cancer around your squad ? Liverpool will sell him no question.

With the Euros next summer, there's no way he will throw a hissy fit. Worst case scenario, we get a good season out of him, and he leaves for a smaller fee next summer.
