I don't recall Ospina winning us many points if any
=======
Come off it, you don't pick up 41 points in 18 without the keeper making key contributions.
Newcastle, definitely. Sunderland, undeniably. Burnley, without a doubt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's so unfair people so quickly or perhaps conveniently forget Ospina's commendable contribution to our good run.
Obviously having Ospina in goal is better than having nobody in goal so you can't say he hasn't contributed. I just can't recall any amazing/crucial saves he made.
Maybe JT was being nice to a team mate that he's known for more than a decade.
Everyone at Chelsea respects Cech and wishes him well. Be happy. Stop sniping.
Did this story days ago, but for what its worth Ospina is not just about making saves. David Seaman was always regarded as being the best at organising the defence and getting the best ouot of them and I feel this I a trait that Ospina has shown as well. Szcz is more of a shot stopper but since Ospina came in he defence has worked beter as a team which I put down to Ospina. They have iimproved as a unit with pina aher than Szcz.
And for the idiots on here who don't think organising the defence is a keepers job and haave ridiculed the idea when I've mentioned it in the past...
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=should+goalkeepers+organise+the+defence&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-GB:MIE-Address&ie=&oe=&gfe_rd=cr&ei=GL6NVeKrCsOq8weu74DoBQ&gws_rd=ssl
The fact we improved defensively isn't just down to the gk though is it? Shez organises the defence too.
We were good defensively with Shez last season aswell, big games aside.
So you look at the defeats. Ospina was our best player v Spurs
-------
he was awful could've given them 3 more goals Welbz was our best player and went off at HT shows how pathetic everyone was that day
Also United goal was poor from Ospina, Herreras strike was average. Kinda glad he's off tbh incredibly overrated just did simple stuff well but never made a save that wasn't ordinary.
His best moment was probably the slide tackle on Lukaku
Cech is a massive difference and if not technically capable of giving us 15pts precisely he will be more decisive in the crunch games which in theirselves are 6 pointers
he was awful could've given them 3 more goals
=====
Denied them 6 more goals more like.
And if you think Ospina was at fault for Herrera's goal , you need to watch Cech in the 13/14 season...
You can downplay what Cech may bring to the team but you can't compare him to Ospina at all.
Cech's save on Lukaku in a token appearance last season was massive in the race already a bigger moment than I can remember Ospina having all year.
People's hate for Sczesney made Ospina's presence overhyped similar to when we thought Sanogo was the next big thing after Liverpool, Bayern games cos we were sick of Giroud but the truth is the original is the best of a bad bunch
Ospina is very average and never ever looked like a long term No.1 something you can't afford at this level
As Bats says he's a main culprit in our cup exits too.
To think Cech replacing him is minimal improvement is silly it's a massive signing as 1 is world class and the other is just decent
Even Wenger jumped at the opportunity depsite Ospina just settling in something Wenger always acknowledges and keeps faith in but him taking this action tells you everything about the gulf in class
Man culprit in the cup exits?
There's a huge difference between Ospina and Cech although I'd much prefer Ospina to stick around as number 2 than leave as he's a decent keeper.
Cech brings a far more commanding presence to a side and even if his best years are behind him the psychological boost to both our squad and the supporters will be huge.
That and he's still the best overrall keeper in the league as Chelsea fans even said back in March. Courtois isn't far behind and I can fully understand why Chelsea havemmade him number one perhaps a year early because he wouldn't have stuck around otherwise and he'll give 10-15 years of top service.
Ospina was at one point statistically the best keeper, don't know if he still is. He won you points against qpr and newcastle everton Burnley Crystal Palace Leicester games.

On what basis do you make such a wild claim?
If there was minimal difference, we would not of done the deal. As wenger has said on numerous occasions he is only looking for players that will improve the squad. Our big signings in the last few years (ozil, Sanchez) haven't been people we were necessarily chasing, but top players that came available and we are in a position now where we can afford to get them. Cech is the same. I dont believe wenger was looking to sign a keeper this summer, however when someone like cech comes available and clearly wanted to come it would be stupid to pass.
Its not just his saves that will improve us defencively its his organisation and his mentality. Amy lawrence has said before when talking about her book how all the players stepped up a level and were pushed on by the arrival of lehman, who just wanted to win and his personality added to the dressing room was a big bonus and key to the invincibles season.
I think you are taking Terry's hyperbole too literally, dj.
More than anything Cech adds calmness and experience that is vital in a goalkeeper. Goalkeepers are rarely involved in the game but then have to come with a vital save during crucial periods. For that defenders need complete confidence in the keeper. I don't think the defenders ever had that with Chesney, and it was something that Ospina had to earn and still has some way to go. Cech's experience of winning major trophies and reputation in the game gives him an instant advantage both on the field and in the dressing room.

A lot of what you are saying about Cech is more historical than current. No doubt he was the best in the league and is still a very good keeper, but he is no longer the Cech of 6 years ago. He has also committed some laughable howlers even in his best years. In 4 years time I am sure Arsenal will be looking for another keeper, which is why it would have made more sense to develop a much younger Ospina who had a very good start with us.

I am not against keeping Ospina instead of Chesney. In fact I always felt we sold the wrong Pole and Fabianski has been excellent this season while Chesney was having another crisis of confidence.
However I think you are wrong about Cech. I don't think Chelsea even needed another keeper. If it hadn't been for his loan agreement I doubt Chelsea would brought in Curtious. It was use him or sell him and Curtoius's age forced Chelsea into the situation.
Ospinas had an excellent Copa, was astounding vs Argentina even tho Colombia went out on penalties.

Cech was beginning to make errors and I could post you several video clips of his mistakes for both club and country. Besides, I would rather develop a 26-year old rather than buy a 33-year old who will need to be replaced in 4 years' time. Ironically, we could have paid less for Cech in 2004 when he wanted to join us than the £11m we are now paying when he is past his best.
Also I find this comparison of the 3 keepers quite interesting:

Losing De Gea will be a huge loss for United as he single-handedly won them around 18 points last season

Funny last season it was very rare de gea saved more then the opposition keeper as we battered most teams but didn't win due to opposition goalkeeper being highest rated player.
