Scary Game - Tips

I enjoy horror but don't scare easy, the creepiest thing I have played recently was the PT demo, after playing through it I loved watching other people stream their gameplay, many of them not even able to finish it, including my daughters.

Another Demo that made the rounds at E3 was a demo for Morpheus called Kitchen which scared the hell out of a lot of people including Angry Joe

If you want scary Morpheus looks set to take it to a whole new level

i literally just bought dying light yesterday 2nd hand iv heard at night time (in the game not real life lol) is pretty scary by all accounts? Ill let u lot in the coming weeks....

It gets harder and harder to deliver on the horror fron tas with every new generation we get more and more de-sensitised to things. There is a reason that games havent come close to replicating Resi Evil and Silent Hill. Plus today we have so much access to info before we try or buy things that it takes a lot of that aspect out the game i feel.... The last of us maybe wasnt as outright scary as u think but its very tense and stressful so kinda similar in a way

sorry I meant to point out Angry Joe starts talking about the Kitchen demo around the 8 and a half minute mark

Yeh i heard about that Kitchen aswell (watch AJ also Amiga) long way off tho it seems. The morphues will kick it up a notch because it will be new again but the same thing will happen again after a while we become de-sensitised to it so that it no longer becomes scary. Its a real difficult genre to pull of properly in general not just games, films too. I think nowadays to be really scary you require proper originality half of fear comes from not knowing what to expect. I also prefer tense horror and stressful horror rather than cheap shot "jump horrors"

Pt demo is great, and I have found slender (not a true ps4 title i know) to be really good, made my wife play it but even watching the hair on my arms were standing up and its only a few quid nowadays. PC is a better platform for decent horrors but there are a few coming to ps4 soon like soma from the guys who made amnesia so should be good.

haven't found a scary game in a while. Silent hill 2, amnesia, gone home is tense, Friday night freddys (is that the name?)

PT is well worth playing Lefty, especially if you don't know what to expect, the problem is the demo has been pulled so unless you already have it installed your not going to find it, unless you have a friend who has it.

Alien isolation is properly brown trouser scary at times. Reactor level is unbelievable and visually very impressive. The atmosphere of that game is one of the best realised I've played. For a scary, lights down vine up game it certainly ticks the boxes.

Evil within has its moments but is clunky in comparison and whilst pretty messed up, not as scary.

I'm interested In people's responses to this as scary games are my favourite and suggestions in this thread will defo by noted.

AI, for me (it's more strealth than combat -so not for everyone) raises the scary bar to a pretty high level.

Oh just thought of another game a lot of people have enjoyed called Outlast, it was free on PS+ a while back, I had a quick mess around with it but got into other stuff,

I know a lot of people have enjoyed being scared by that game.

damn - I haven't got the PT demo, but going to buy Alien isolation this weekend.

I know alot of people say its a gimmick, but I invested in one of the Samsung Curve TV's, and am loving it.
My previous TV only went to 720p and the screen wasent great, but the curve is awesome.

Hence, thought a good horror title, lights out, sound barr on will be quite enjoying...oh and a few cold beers.

Really didn't like Evil Within! I wanted to as it looked really good but was just frustratingly hard...

Want to play Alien Isolation but waiting for it to come down in price as a few people have said its no good!

Ronny depends very much what you want from your gaming. If you want CoDesque shooting, and Uncharted Cut Scenes I wouldnt bother with it, however if the idea of having no weapons and very slowly trying to hide from the greatest killing machine in the universe sounds like fun then go for it!

Wil maybe give it a go then as I'm struggling to get into uncharted and not a huge fan but don't dislike Cod!

I enjoy it - but i am the person who will spend half a game sneaking into a perfect sniper position by crawling, waiting for people to pass and generally trying to stay off the beaten track and unnoticed to get the drop on the enemy. If you like this as well i can strongly recommend Aliens. Basically it is Alien the video game, so if you like that type of film im certain you will like it, if you dont and you prefer Commando i would give it a miss

I don't think People understand how much impact VR will have, horror will never be so scary.

Agreed, it's more an atmospheric ode to the first film. Few games come anywhere close to creating an atmosphere like it. I can see how all action COD type gamers might not like alien and give it bad reviews, but for fans of film and horror game fans, it's excelllent.

And there is no way I'd play that on VR, way too scary.

Alien isolation is also scary as fook.
