One of Ramsey or Wilshere has to go

Cazorla is getting on a bit and within the next couple of years he'll need to be replaced and that leaves us with - Ozil, Wilshere and Ramsey for the CM and CAM positions.
How is there anything wrong with that?
Ideally you want 2 good options for each position.

Look mate....The last time we had a full squad was in the FACup final against Villa. Players drop from, injured, suspended....We need competition when we want to be a serious competitor and challenge for trophies.

I do agree with you that we need competition, GT; my point is that I think it's going to be hard to keep 4 top-class midfielders happy competing for two positions.

Delusion, I agree, but for the next couple of seasons, there's still an issue of keeping these players happy.

I don't want to be misconstrued - I would absolutely love to have Wilshere, Cazorla, Ramsey, and Ozil available to play the central positions - but I fear it may be hard to convince anyone of them to accept a large portion of the season on the bench (or the sidelines).

As I say, this is less of an issue if Wenger starts playing Ramsey and/or Wilshere on the wing, or Wilshere as a DM, but it remains to be seen how Wenger will approach this season from a tactical standpoint.

Class players will accept that, Da Stu

Fair enough, but I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one, mate
This may well be a moot point though if, as I suspect, Wenger starts playing one of them as a wideman.

Change to a 4-3-3 and sell Ozil, problem solved.

So we should get more depth for the DM position by signing another player but we should sell in the positions where we have depth. Honestly how do people reason at times. Competition is healthy and it is necessary for a title winning side.

People don't come to you for solutions to problems often if that comment is anything to go by.

I think Wilshere and Ramsay will accept it at least for a season or two simply because they'll still get plenty of game time.

You are among my favorite posters but you actually contradicted your points about the OP with this statement about the DM situation.

"Interesting to see how it pans out, but I'm still a
little uneasy about the thought of going into the
new season without proper understudy for
Coquelin."

Sell one of them and we are left with the DM situation. Buy another DM and we are left with the Ramsey/Wilshere situation in the DM position.

Truth is neither player is limited to one role, so their are plenty of options to get them more than enough playing time over a season.
Would not surprise me at all to see them as a pair in CM at stages this season.

Agreed DJ. There will be enough opportunities for them to play in the shorter term, and the number of ageing squad members suggests both Wilshere and Rambo have good prospects for the longer term. OP is overreacting.

Thankyou Wumpatrol

I thought someone might pick up on that! But I don't actually think there's a problem with having X number of players to fill certain positions; I think there is a problem with trying to keep a number of established, top-class players happy with a limited number of spaces in the team.
If we could get another DM who wouldn't mind relatively limited opportunities for a season or two, but was capable of helping to fill the void should Coquelin get injured (or even partner him on occasion), then that would be ideal. Some are suggesting Bielik may be able to fill this role, but I haven't really seen enough of him to comment.

Shocking article

I actually want to see Jack and Aaron start the big games alongside Coq and Ozil moved to the left wing or not even played at all. Obviously Wenger won't do it but Jack and Aaron in the big games would make us more solid and Ozil is a touch to flaky in the big games.

Only 1 that should go if we HAD to sell is Santi, Cazorla doesn't add any specialist attributes to the side he's mainly a luxury player being fitted in (a wonderful luxury of course).

Wilshere is more capable of dictating whilst Ramsey is 1 of the best b2b MF's in Europe. I think if we had a more tactically adept coach they'd be able to play in the same MF with a DM (Coq)

I didn't like Ozil on the left but he can certainly play on the right imo like he did at Madrid especially if Bellerin keeps progressing who will provide the width

-------------Welbz/Theo-------
Alexis----------------------Ozil
--Wilshere---------Ramsey
---------------Coq
---------------------------------------Bellerin

This team would have tremendous balance, I'd love for Alexis to work at CF (like Aguero) to fit the Ox in the left only problem unfortunately is Wenger would give all too much freedom rather than assigning particular roles.

Providing his successor is progressive I think Jack and Rambo will be a successful pairing for years to come, absolutely no way we should sell either especially whilst keeping Santi in the team when he's 30 and nothing special from deep

Agreed. Especially the one that said, and I quote: "..sell Ramsey to a Madrid or Barca if he can make the grade".

Great idea. If Ramsey can 'make the grade at Real or Barca' he's clearly of no use to us.
