MS is long term replacement for Arteta. Coquelin has shown that he deserves his place in XI, but we definitely need a back up

Schneiderlin would be a good signing but he's overpriced. Bit like how I'd have signed Sterling, but the valuation was a joke. I'd like us to spend big if necessary on a forward, but we shouldn't be splashing out close to £30m on a player who is a questionable upgrade on Coq.

It is a lot more with arsenal fans on here, they say bastian and Morgan(just easier) wouldn't get in their team? The same bastian who was 1St choice in a bayern midfield when he was fit who had , Alonso, goetze, Thiago, kroos(when he was there), And many more we players, I think it's more to do with a lot of fans knowing we having massively strengthened one of our weakest areas over the past few years, a lot of arsenal fans on here were really hoping they got schniderlin

Ramsey wasn't bang average for a start

Ah...I see you are playing football manager again.

1. Schneiderlin is more B2B than DM. If you needed a DM backup from Southampton, Wanyama is far and away the better buy.

2. For all the overrating Schneiderlin has garnered this off-season, he's still a DM, and I'm still waiting for that 'Worldclass DM" that came in and changed a Top-side's fortunes for the better.

A worldclass DM is an oxymoron. You see players that consider themselves 'class' usually aren't that interested in water-carrying.

That's why Javi Martinez, Illaramendi, Blind, Paulinho, Capoue or most high profile DMs bombed do heavily. YOU LITERALLY NEED TO FEEL BELOW AVERAGE to do the gut-busting those DMs do.

If you buy a 30 million player to do the most thankless job on the pitch, I guarantee he spends most of it trying to be visible.

I don't disagree that we could do with a DM addition, but literally any other passable DM (Jedinak?) at a moderate fee would be good enough.

Which 'WorldClass' DM signing in recent years do you know has gone on to set the prem alight?

Like they did last year?

Then proceeded to play the players they already had?

Schneiderlin was definitely over priced but you can't say he's a questionable upgrade on Coquelin, Schnedierlin has been doing the business gr a few seasons now where as Coq has had a few good months. What's happened with the Carvalho links now, seems to have cooled down?

How do you know Schneiderlin will be the perfect fit for Arsenal? Is that the same logic that said Di Maria would be a perfect fit or Falcao was a better signing than Welbeck??

Coquelin was by some distance the best DM in the second half of the season even better than Matic. He is a better player than Schneiderlin defensively, has better defensive instincts & more interceptions. Schneiderlin is a better passer & goal scorer but we already have that sort of player in Ramsey & Wilshere.

All these new players need to gel so we may be better of with what we have as long as they can avoid injuries. It's not like Schneiderlin is Vidal.

Wenger is the best judge of talent in the history of the club and probably the premiership. If he thinks Coquelin is a better player than Schneiderlin then who am I to doubt him.

The OP is embarrassing to say the least.

The Coq > Schneiderlin for what Arsenal actually need from their DM.

It's so funny, every season some team goes out, buys a ridiculous amount of unnecessary players, and everyone proceeds to declare them challengers.

Tottenham
Liverpool
United last year
Heck QPR did it.

2 months into the league the Zeitgeist will be over and the player's actually quality in the team can then be evaluated.

Shaw, Soldado, Di Maria, Debuchy, Paulinho, Mangala, Lamela, Balotelli.

The list goes on. I'm not bothered. When they buy a proper striker I'll be worried. But as long as they stay hugging possession like they do now, they keep conceding goals on the counter...and no DM casn fix that

@ Vivianos debut

Great post. A lot of people forget that make kele did not become the player he was by being classy. A dedicated DM is essentially a player committed to the dirty stuff. Something that Schneiderlin is not.

I actually wanted Schneiderlin so that we can play two DMs in away games against the top 8 teams. As a single DM at the base of the midfield Schneiderlin is not the answer.

United will have a lot to do to find the right balance....lots of midfielder now who has to fit in the right tactical approach.

I'd think anyone would be wary of buying from Southampton, on recent evidence. Even the decent ones somehow end up being injury prone.

Well done OP. Being a rational arsenal fan. You and Sheriff are the only decent and realistic Arsenal fans on here it seems

I think wilshere plays schneiderlins role better. Coq wilshere and Ramsey can make a formidable trio in tough games.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Morgan Sch. will he be just like all the other Saints players who shone as part of the team but just don't seem to perform once they leave?

Time will tell.

I hope wenger signs the players we need and not let us go in short again.

I think Morgan is very very good but I think arteta two years ago was very very good.

His club are asking way too much for promise only.
He (Carvalho) is not all that. For their asking price you would at least expect a player who is ready in that he has the basics required to perform in his role.
Whereas Carvalho, at least in the recent Euro U21 championship, showed he was lacking in a number of fundamental aspects essential to a ball winning mfs role.
For those saying that I am judging a player on just a few games - think again. This was him playing tournament football with and against the supposedly best European players of his age. If he cannot get his act together in these circumstances, I'll keep my reservations about his readiness for PL and CL football.
