The thing is we can't have it both ways, we hold out for top dollar so other clubs will do the same

Not really. There is no rule in place to make this happen. Villa are more cash strapped than us so i dont believe we HAVE to meet the clause. We obviously dont think we need to either as we would have already if that was the case. Lets see who cracks 1st
I'm not saying we will have to meet it, I'm saying villa if they are in a position to can hold out as long as they want until we meet the clause or what they are willing to except.
We can only make a bid but they know we're minted and I think it's going to take a bid close to that £32.5m.
They have every right to demand the money to!
I can see you lot getting Berahino. Seems like a Rodgers kind of signing.
Villa really are a selling club and if you look at the trash they signed last year they really are going to be fighting relegation imo. I do think we will end up paying the 32.5 but whenever the price is inflated the scrutiny is always much higher too and is an unnecessary pressure we could do without
I don't think Berahino is ready yet but we will prob have a look in Jan if things are not going well. I do like him but again 20-25m too much
It depends how much we want him.
The thing about holding out for less is that somebody else comes in, and coughs up the full asking price. Then, for the sake of a few mill, we're left hoping that Origi and Ings work out, and we've no idea if they will.
It's worth the insurance of a few mill extra, but we only know from the papers that LFC are interested anyway, and we don't know how interested.

Agree with RAP.
Also United are sniffing around, so if we don't pay the fee, they will.
Nah, you guys can pay for Benteke, I want us to sign Lacazette.
The only reason I really care about transfer fees is pressure and scrutiny thats goes with it can make or break a player. Why else would anyone give a flying fùck

I think that happens anyway, unless you get somebody really cheap (which rarely happens, these days).
I think Lallana's been more than decent for us, but he gets it all the time (on here, at least, but I've seen it implied in the Press, as well).
He gets it because he was never a 25m player. Hes ok but way overpriced. You might be able to tell but im not a fan of his. Hope he proves me wrong
I don't necessarily care about fees, but I care about blowing a budget on one player when we could get 2 to strengthen the squad some more. Yes I know we have just received 49m but I don't believe fees are something fans 'shouldnt' care about.
I think we should make a final offer take it or leave it 25m
--------------------------------------------------------------
So let me get this right - you bent City over a few times to get an extortinate fee for an average player but you expect to get a better player for half what you held out for, for Sterling?
Here's an idea - you pay up the asking fee for a player under contract to another club, like you expected City to do for a grossly overpriced, largely unproven player?????
Get real!!
And BTW - I love seeing Villa get ripped off!

I think the reason people care about transfer fees nowadays is the stick they get from rivals when a big signing fails.
I couldn't give a crap how much we pay for a player, just that we sign the players the manager wants.

Villa can object by all means. But we don't have to meet the clause. He doesn't have the english tax and is not as young. Im saying if they don't accept then move on, there are other players out there. We don't have to meet the clause just because city met ours. Your stance is silly. I will use Pedro for example his buy out clause was 109m should we also meet that because city met ours.
This fake outrage from other teams is ridiculous

Did Sterling have a clause in his contract?
It's probably the case that Villa have made it absolutely clear that they will not sell for any less than £32.5m. So Liverpool think that it would be a waste of time putting in a bid for less.
I do agree with your point though regarding a club (in this case Liverpool) getting fleeced because they have just received a load of money from a player sale. Of course (potential) selling clubs will always try it on (and fair play to them for doing so), but that doesn't mean that the (potential) buying club has to agree to it.
Carragher sums it up with his tweet the other day - to paraphrase: wishing Liverpool bought as well as they sold.
Nothing faux about it - you just come across very arrogant with regard to other clubs players!
If you genuinely are interested in a player contracted to another club then pay up or shut up like you expected City to do!

Brummie, that’s just not the way the financial world works. Everybody acts in their own self-interest. The Liverpool board are hardly going to get together and say: “Well, we have to pay the full price because we insisted City do it”.
It’s not arrogance, it’s just the way it works. Villa may well be able to hold out for the full price, it will depend on the circumstances, and if they can, they will. But no club is is going to offer it up-front just because they want their buying policy to be consistent with their selling policy.
All clubs will attempt, with varying degrees of success, to get purchase prices down, and selling prices up. It's how markets work.
with some of the prices you've paid for other players theres no reason why villa would go lower than the clause, you need a striker far more than they need the money for him
Wessie, when I said arrogance I was not referring to Liverpool as a club but the OPs attitude towards another clubs player.
I'm sure you wouldn't have appreciated a City fan saying, "We should give Liverpool a £30m take it or leave it offer for Sterling".
It gives of the impression that you're in the driving seat when you're in fact not!
Hope that clears up my view on the matter for what it's worth!
