Wakey Wakey spurs.. this is a gentle nudge from uncle Chronic
Got a bit of kiddy fiddler ring to it Only joking
I wouldn't mind us bidding for Bazoer (spelling) from Ajax, young player but from what ive seen he looks a decent prospect.

not familiar with him buddy... a DM... how would you describe him?

He's tall and strong, 18-20 years old which maybe a good thing as i can see his price rising in the not to distant future. I know we want someone with experience to hit the ground running but that also reflects in the transfer fees put on those players. He will be a key player for Ajax going forward i feel.

like his profile, but I think we badly need some experience in there.. I actually wouldn't mind trying to get cambiasso for a year in a davids style signing.... short termist I know.. but he could be great to bring on bentaleb mason and alli......

Did Cambiasso play most/all games last season? I just worry a player of his age might not be able to play enough games? I could be wrong, i agree that at least one experienced player is needed as our midfield youth need a leader to learn from.

I think he played most weeks during his time at the club... not sure though
Bit of info for those not familiar with Bazoer:

We've also been heavily linked with Suarez at Atletico
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Poch gave Vjelkovic a place in the squad

-------
oh yeah. made an article on him the othr day
thought he was off to fiorentina though?
I'm not sure what the perception is at present but it's clear to me that the management of the side is set in such a way that youth and clever/sensible transfers are the way forward.
We will blood youth this season
We will keep a smaller squad with 2/3 players for each position
It is one in one out as we have a strict squad registration with the Premier League.
I can't see players coming in until players like Adey, Soldado, Vlad, leave the team - all of those are easily costing 200k a week in wages
The MLS game is next Wednesday - I think things may be a bit clearer then.
Veljkovic hasn't been involved so far in the first team training , but has had an extended break - he got some minutes for the youngsters as sub the other day.
If he gets any minutes in the MLS game, I think he will be in the squad
Serious question, if you were to write a job description for a DM, what would it contain?
Doesn't have to be a narrative, bullet points would do.
Oh, and no cop out, by simply saying to "protect the back four".
And in what formation is a DM best used?
Just be a bunch of words
Anticipate
Concentrate
Communicate
Vision
Etc
That Matic guy looks decent

And how does that differ from a striker?
I love a DM so players like Javi Martinez, Kroos, Alonso, Pirlo (to an extent) Carrick (at Spurs he was immense, was too easy for him)
Ideally in the 4-2-3-1 formation with the holding player just behind the 2nd midfielder allowing him to push on to balance the midfield with AM
Bill, I'm not one for having a player that tackles and tracks well, but doesn't contribute much elsewhere, such as Scotty Parker.
I like the central midfielders to be able to do a bit of everything ideally, but obviously some will be better in particular areas.
Of our bunch we have, none stand out as particularly defensively sound. Bentaleb is the pick, then it's probably Dembele. The latter not having very good distribution.
For me, the player we lack in the squad would have:
Good positional discipline.
An above average range of passing.
To be aggressive and able to compete physically.
To be able to tackle reasonably well.
Not Claude Makelele, but someone who would compliment what we have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And how does that differ from a striker?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
A striker needs to be more direct so usually it depends on the player, say it be Kane or Shearer where they're direct.
DM would usually have the ability to pre-empt a situation, read the game, if you look at videos of Javi Martinez or Alonso they're always looking left and right, checking on CB positions, striker positions, awareness is a huge aspect to thier game, and the ability to stabilize the midfield and compose themselves,
When you look at Wilshere he's not got those attributes, he's not a DM,
As it stands, if Bentaleb got injured we would be pretty short of options.
It would be Dembele with another.
Now for me, Dembele simply doesn't have the ability to do the job well enough. He isn't going to get the ball off the centre backs and start moves. He can't hurt teams with a pass. It would be too simple for teams to sit off him and let him inevitably pass it sidewards or attempt to dribble with it and possibly lose it
Our midfield stands at
Mason, Dembele, Bentaleb, Eriksen, Toby, but as backup we have Carroll, Veljkovic so it's clear we're short on players
The majority of our most promising youth are midfield players, if we sign a midfielder it should just be the one; with experience and leadership qualities imo, not sure we are going to attract any star quality we require

why are you naming eriksen?
What about Yann M'Vila? He was a relativley hot young property a few years ago and scuptered moves due to off the pitch issues (wife beater?). Perhaps at 25 he's grown up a bit, good players often don't last in Russia too long, Inter loaned him last season and didn't take up the option to buy him so I'd imagine he's availible, of course he represents a risk.
