Looks like money spent to me, otherwise Arsenal's would be significantly lower, even in the negative.

Yeah Arsenal have been excellent on that front.

Also you have Liverpool as winning two trophies between 97 and 2002 but in 2001 alone we won five. Did you make all of this up?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You won 3 in 2001 not 5. Major trophies only.

Imo simple really. Spending doesnt ensure success but not spending is a sure way to fail. Arsenal limited their spending and it showed. Recently they have started to pay out again and cups are beginning to be within reach.

You've missed of a league cup and a Europa cup from LFC.

Just sayin.

There's no mention of it being only major trophies. I'm not sure why those considered not major don't count either. Seems all very selective to me.

You won the League Cup, UEFA Cup and FA Cup treble in 2001. They are all that count. The others are equivalent to the Asia Trophy that Arsenal have just won or an Emirates Cup. They don't count.

The only trophies that should be counted are CL, PL, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League/Uefa Cup.

Winning stuff like the community shield is nice and all but it's doesn't bother you much if your team loses.

He may have missed Chelsea's Europa League title as well.

If you're talking 'spend v success' then why limit your post to only 5 teams?
Your definition of 'success' would help.

Why does anybody bother playing in them if they don't count?

Look, I take your points. If I've missed one off, then my apologies. It's not been done on purpose, but if you continue to post sarcastic comments, then I'll just delete them.

Like I said in the introduction, if you bothered to read it, I've said it's PL, CL, FA LC.....not Europa Leagues, Community shields etc.

I've not posted this as a City fan to antagonise any fan of any club, just ask a simple question.

Maybe the facts aren't to your liking and you'd like me to manipulate to show you in a better light? If so, I could have done that for City, as for me, it shows that since we've actually had money to compete, we've won trophies. I wanted to ask if that is true of all clubs and are there any trends when it comes to spending.

Up to you.

Do you really think a one off game at the start of the season compares to winning any of the trophies I listed? I just don't think they should be taken into consideration when determining how successful a team has been.

You have to include Europa Leagues/Uefa Cups way better trophy to win than the FA Cup or League Cup.

Why don't Europa Leagues count? Surely clubs in the Europa League spent the money you've posted(possibly made up) in order to compete in it? Not only that but it's widely considered on here that it's very difficult to compete in other competitions when you play in the Europa League yet when somebody wins it, and not only that, wins other trophies along with it, it doesn't count?

With that in mind, I'm out.

You define it? I'm sure we'd have LFC fans wanting every trophy prior to 1992 including - but as I mentioned, for ease of use, I've just taken 1992 - to the present.....isn't 23 years enough to demonstrate spend vs 'a definition of success?

We'd be all day arguing over what success means.

Do you really think I think they compare? What I'm stating is that it's ridiculous to say they don't count. I feel they do count and I was happy we won them. Each to their own.
