If he gets 15 league goals I'll be happy.

Benteke is World Class. The best striker in the lead by far.

If you look at just the last 2 seasons Giroud, Bony, Kane and Costa ( despite playing just 1) all have been better

If Rooney had actually played as a number 9 in that time he would have smashed his current tally with ease...

If you watch the games closely you'll see that Rooney is clearly the best striker of PL evar. By applying Arsenal fan logic I arrived at my first statement

And if you just include goals scored on the second week of every month that have only been scored within the six yard box with the left foot then Carlton Cole is the best striker of all time!

To be honest, stats like this don't mean a huge amount as there have been various injuries to players, positions played by some others and new strikers to the league.

Without the need to compare him to others however it's clear Benteke is a goalscorer, a rate just shy of 1 in 2 for Villa tells us that.

I'm excited to see what he can do with us, hopefully he'll get a good start because pressure can build very quickly.

If you place benteke in a team containing coutinho..firmino..lallana..milner..henderson and ibe then he will probably win the league

The best PL striker ever is Micheal Carrick. He's also the best defender and midfielder. Just ask hafi. He has the stats to prove it.

It's a good stat, that since Benteke started playing in the Premier League, only Aguero has scored more goals.

Not sure how anyone could deride that to be honest, considering also that he also had a period out with injury.

He's a proven premier league goal scorer.

Not strictly true Red, RVP and Suarez have scored more too, they've just left the league so aren't included in this stat.

What's crazy is that Suarez managed to do it in just two seasons.

posted on 23/7/15

Why weren't they included though?

So since Benteke started playing in the premier league, only Aguero, RVP and Suarez have scored more.

It's not like that reads badly does it?

Still shows he's a proven premier league goal scorer.

I don't deny that he's a proven scorer and I think he'll do well for us. I'm just pointing out that the OP's stat and article headline is biased in Benteke's favour due to the exclusion of Suarez and RVP on the basis that they no longer play in the premier league.

Dean.... biased?

i clearly stated "of players playing in prem league"

So basically only Aguero currently playing in the UK is a better goalscorer!! The point is we currently have a striker bettered only by Aguero in this league.

The stat is not misleading.

Since Charlie Austin made his PL debut only Aguero, Kane and Costa scored more.

Imagine if he played for a completely average team like Villa or Newcastle instead of dross like QPR. He'd easily be one one of the best in the league.

.......................................

That's not true at all, for one Rooney would have easily scored another two goals of he played even a third of those games as a number 9.

He is just the highest goalscorer in the last 3 years, not a better goalscorer than anyone else ( bar Aguero)

It's a good record however it's dressed up.

Plenty have had good records for lesser teams and failed to make the step up though, for various reasons.

Lambert is in the top 10 of the same list.

It doesn't always work that a more creative team automatically means goals. Teams play a lot more defensively against the better teams so strikers often get less space, even though they may get more shots at goal statistically.

He might score 25 next season.

Then again he might score 5.

This shows that the stat is quite meaningless. Obviously Benteke scored more over that period than likes of Costa, Kane, Austin, Sanchez etc as they've been elsewhere

posted on 23/7/15

It's not meaningless.

He's scored a goal every other game since he joined the league.

That's impressive over nearly 90 games for a 21-24 yr old.

Doesn't mean he will be a good signing but don't pretend his stats are not good.
