I'd say give him a go there! He did not look obviously bad yesterday in that position.

I really agree with this.

Dier isn't a DM, so it doesn't make sense to try and make him into one. Yes there is a chance that it would work but it's unlikely.

I see Toby and Jan as first choice CBs, butI'd like to think that Dier and Wimmer will get the chances to compete for these spots (and maybe Fazio, but not convinced!).

And a decent CM or DM should be signed, which I'm sure the club are working on.

That's my thinking Juande, just can't see how this will work against better opposition. To me, as adaptable as he is, this is a step too far. Maybe as a complete last option in an emergency. However we are bound to have someone in mind for this position. Wish we would get moving, the 8th of August is fast approaching. When are we going to learn, the teams that are settled early on and ready for the start of the season usually have a more successful point tally come May?

Dier reminds me of Phil Jones, and no that's not a compliment.

I was kind of thinking the same with regards to O'Shea and Jones. In regards to squads that use/have a player they utilise in many positions. Don't think it's fair on him though, as he probably looks at himself as a long term half of a CB partnership at Spurs. I honestly believe given enough game time within the cups etc this wouldn't be out of the question. Hopefully Levy and Poch have identified a target though and come Xmas we won't be delving into the January market to fill in my eyes this key role.

The Ace Face I have to be honest in saying I have seen very little of Deli Alli. I am liking what I am reading though. Let's hope he some the promise some seem to expect!

It's very hard to say. On the face of it, it seems an odd move by Poch. He never played there for us there at all last season.

On the other hand, he watches him in training day in, day out, so will be aware of any limitations he has.

He's a good little (big) footballer, always has composure on the ball. He's no Dani Alves at right back -and doesn't have the tools to be - but if he has impressed Poch here in training it'd make sense that he was so happy to met others leave.

*I have read he had a stint in central midfield for Sporting previously. How true it is I don't know

I heard those rumours myself HRH about Eric's time at Sporting. Who knows, I guess we will have to wait and see how the rest of the window pans out to see what the plan is. I just don't hope Poch isn't being given the tools required to build and mould a team, by the powers that be.

Hopefully Poch isn't having to do a Blue peter job of here is one I prepared earlier

Dier played as a defensive midfielder twice for sporting. Hauled off as a sub on both occasions.

It is a strange move by poch. I am all for everyone having flexibility providing they have the tools or history to play there.

I mean Kyle walker has played left back three times in his career winning man of the match twice. Therefore in an emergency no probs with him filling in there.

Dier looks like he should be able to play there but pochs playing Russian roulette with his development especially if he puts him there against United. Verts and Toby have both played there more, even Danny rose has played in central midfield more surely you would risk someone else.

As I keep saying we need bodies and quick otherwise come 1st September we could be fighting a losing battle already.

I can see it now....us getting stuffed by United, losing to stoke and fans all of a sudden getting on someone like diers back.

No. We should stop trying to take shortcuts or the cheap option and go and buy a proper DM. If the scouts are unable to locate some suitable targets across Europe then they need sacking. Simple as that.

LLM I always like and rate your posts. Your comment is spot on! Ledley's knee I thought that was the whole purpose of bringing in Mitchell, although still all is quite on the Western front! Seriously we are as light on the ground as I remember, having to play in four tournaments mean a few injuries or burn out and it's game over come Xmas!

Too early to call for me. The immediate downsides to me are:

1. We still lack experience in midfield .

2. It means we will probably see quite a bit of Frankenstein's monster at the back.

Did anybody watch the full game the other night? How did he do?

HRH we were ok. Not great at the back, suppose it's a work in motion. Saying that if it wasn't for their GK we would've won. Both teams looked good going forward, but suspect at defending!

Cheers fella, good workout for us at altitude for fitness. Heard the pitch played like old school astroturf, flat and dry?

How did Dier do in particular? Did he look noticably out of place?

He looked ok. But don't think his long term future is midfield, against better opposition our midfield would've been over ran. Kane missed a few chances both took his goal well.
