That's not going to happen TOOR.

Milner only joined us to play centrally.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure he thought he would play most games centrally for City also. However he will have to do what is best for the team like every other player. I imagine he might play centrally in the first few games but then be chosen wide. I can't see Ibe or Markovic starting against strong sides, this season and we'd be much safer with Milner there.

Although I like the diamond Leiva has posted and Milner would be perfect for that.

Also Firmino, due to his pressing from the front.

He's not good enough to be starting then is he?

He's not going to displace one of Hendo, Milner or Coutinho in one of the 3 spots. He's a talented player and should be given time on the bench with the possibility of coming on but starting?

No!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not a case of displacing though, is it? The same eleven don't play every game of the season.....
---------------------------------------
The same 11 don't play every game through injury and suspension but if the likes of Henderson, Milner, can, Coutinho, lallana are fit and available do you think Tex is going to get in infront of them?

He just isn't!

Generally, no. But sometimes you need to mix it up imo. It wouldn't hurt to give him the odd start, it keeps opposition managers guessing as to how to set up against us, stops us becoming predictable.

As for some suggesting he's not good enough because he's not a regular at 22, he's had a lot of injuries which maybe means he develops later than average. If you're going to tell players they're finished at a club by their early 20's, then that's just not right.

posted on 3/8/15

I agree with the point about players not being finished by 22 but he's only played 35 league games and now is the time he needs to play games!

Sitting on the bench and getting the odd start isn't going to do anything for him.

Milner has been told he is going to play centrally.

He has said repeatedly in the media that he joined to play centrally, feels its his best position, had his best season of his career there for Villa to get the move to City.

He is not going to play wide, or at least he certainly isn't going to play wide very often.

Whether its our best balanced team is irrelevant.

Rodgers sees him as a central player, hence playing him there in every game so far.

Yep!

If he was ok playing wide and getting played out of position, he'd have stayed at city playing champions league, chance of winning the league every year and picking up £165,000 a week!

He will play centrally and he will play when fit, along with Henderson who being captain he'll play when available! When everyone is fit and available "other than Studge"!

We'll see. I see him playing wide, when we need more balance and against the better teams. Not to mention that our two options there are very young and inexperienced. He'll play games centrally also but for the team, I hope he's wide until we get some experience there or one of Ibe or Markovic play consistently well.

can firmino play wide right?

Milner would probably give a bit more cover for moreno on the left, being that he is slightly less attacking.

that said, i would prefer the diamond, but im not sure how our team would fit in to one, and we would essentially be writing off another season for marko and ibe.

and if the Cheryshev rumours are to be believed, we are going to be lining up as a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1

Cant see we would add ANOTHER winger just to not use them?

I see Ibe playing regularly on the right.

He has been one of our most creative players since he came back from Derby, including in pre-season.

I don't think Rodgers worries too much about age, or how much defensive cover he will provide for Clyne.

posted on 3/8/15

In 6 months he will be the same age as Coutinho. At 22 he is nowhere near as good as Coutinho. He isn't good enough and he won't make it at Liverpool.

-----------Mignolet
Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno
-------------Lucas
-----Milner-------Henderson
-----------Coutinho
----Benteke------Firmino

--------------------------

Yeah it has to be this, surely. Firmino is able to play off a main striker, or on the left or right, but until Sturridge is back then this would be a good spot for him.

Coutinho would be in his best position, and Milner and Henderson would balance each other out very well in this formation.

The question is whether Emre Can is able to play defensive midfield in a diamond, if not then it would be the bench for him and Lucas to play at DM.

As for Teixeira, then he is clearly behind Coutinho, Henderson, Milner, Can and Lucas, but for me he is a better, younger and hungrier option than the 'Average Joe' Allen. I'm sorry, but Allen simply isn't good enough and I'd prefer a youngster like Teixeira to be given a chance as a back up rather than keeping Joe Allen. It's a shame that Rodgers rates him so highly, because no one else does.

I also think Ryan Kent looks like a better option than Markovic already, but I imagine that Markovic will be given a season to impress (mainly due to his ridiculous £20mil price tag - much like Lovren) and if he fails to settle then I'd like to see Kent be given the nod for next season.

It would be nice to see another player come through the academy and make a mark. I imagine Ibe will be the one this season to step on and stake a claim for a first 11 spot, but I hope there are more to follow (fingers crossed Ilori at centre back develops into a class act).

I really cannot see us playing the diamond unless Sturridge and Benteke are both fit and on top of their game.

We'd concede so many goals and have no width what so ever. I do think it is a great option in certain games though.

I too think Ibe will be a starter for us this season. I wrote the other day that I don't think Rodgers has favourites or cares about age - he doesn't mind benching people regardless of rep or cost. The lad carries a direct threat and has insane balance.

I see us playing a 4-3-3 variant but in truth it will be about players occupying zones so I wouldn't worry about what formation we are playing per se.

In terms of the first game of the season I don't think Firmino will be starting and he''l probably go with Ibe and Lallana with a Can, Henderson Milner midfield.

posted on 3/8/15

id like to see a lot less of lallana this season.

he ruins our attacks!

posted on 3/8/15

Opinions eh. I'd like to see a fully fit and firing Lallana every week. I rate him.

posted on 3/8/15

Dwells too long on the ball that lad.

posted on 3/8/15

Well he's a one and two touch player so that's more to do with movement around him for me.

Ibe and Lallana with a Can, Henderson Milner midfield.

You don't see Coutinho starting?

He was good against Helsinki and looked sharp. I think he is a nailed on starter.

I think Can will miss out.

Hendo
Milner

Ibe
Cout
Lallana

Benteke (probably)

When Firmino is fit I think Lallana will miss out regularly.

I've also watched him I think he is. Loves a 1-2 or a lay off does Adam.

Lallana? Nah, sorry, he has never ever been a one or two touch player. Of course he can play that but I've watched him for a while, including his earlier career at Saints and his game has never been about one and two touch.

Three?

I do think Lallana dwells on the ball too long.

He isn't a fast player in his actions.

He does score goals though which we lack and has lovely creativity on the ball to open the game up.

I just think the emergence of Ibe will knock him down the order of a regular starting spot. If Firmino doesn't do too well then Lallana can get back in again.

Lallana was a bit in and out last season in terms of first 11 (not just when injured) and with our attack being strengthened he is under pressure.
