I agree with you Bats....The only thing that can stop us from competing is the injury list. If we avoid major injuries to our main player we are up there. No doubt.
I would add Liverpool to compete at laest about top 4.
Not sure who strong City actually is? Could be wrong but I think they will struggle.
Just seen we are best price 4/1 to win the league which is kind of annoying. Chelsea 7/4 City 3/1 United 11/2
"I think it's a joke with our funds that our alternatives to Coquelin are Arteta/Flamini."
Fans who say this go a bit overboard imo. Arteta as a back up DM is a great player to have, I doubt very much there is a player out there who'd be happy as a back up to Coquelin.
You look at the other teams:
Liverpool - Lucas, who's not even that good. Who's their back up? That's right, nobody, they'll just fill that spot with a Milner or a Can.
Chelsea - Matic, one of the best DM's in world football. Their back up is then Mikel? This guy is a bum compared to Arteta.
Manchester United - Carrick who is an OAP, then who is their back up? Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin? Their not even DM's.
Manchester City - Fernando and then Fernandinho. Chumps compared Le Coq and Tom Cruise.
Coquelin plays a specialist role, the defensive workload is almost completely on him, whereas all those teams have somebody playing deep alongside him. DM is the most important part of this formation we are playing, the only way Arteta would come in for Coq is if we reverted to 4-2-3-1
We have other options and tactical approach to replace le Coq, Bats. They're not ideal though. Arteta, Santi with support of Ramsey are examples.

That's the point though, if Coq got injured I really wouldn't be confident in a game against a big boy, and that's where I feel we'll blow the title
Cazorla for me is the first name on the team sheet but without Coq I wouldn't trust him in his current role on the team. So basically we would be going back to Arteta/Ramsey combo and changing the way we play. Not that it is terrible or anything but look how we've faired against the big boys playing those 2 in CM
yeah agree with you both Bats and Penguin. Dont feel comfortable with replacements or different tactical approach either.
Hope Wenger sees our dilemma as well.
If we sign a new RB and another DM, we will be right up there. With the current squad we might compete but we ain't winning it. Arsene will again refuse to go that final step and leave us short.

We'll be okay because Welbeck will step up this season.
Him, sanchez and Walcott/OX will be unplayable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dont think that our main problem is to score goals. I do prefer the option to score from every position. I dont worry about our offensive.
I am worried about our defensive midfield. If we do lose le Coq for longer we are in deep trouble.

A RB? Are you ok?
So i guess you have changed your mind op from six months ago when you said it was boring supporting Arsenal and unaffected by our results? That was quick

Eh clearly because since the start of the year we have changed our philosophy and look as if we are going to have a season different to any of the last 10 or so where we have been fighting to finish ahead of Spurs.
We've come a considerably long way over the past 2 seasons. It will be so depressing if we don't now make this final step up and start competing for the major honours.
Arteta is a great player, but he plays a completely different role to Coq. The gameplan changes. Flamini has left (I believe), surely this frees up a squad position for somebody in the mould of Coq? We need that philosophy in the middle of the park vs certain teams.
Striker is still a huge 1, but there simply isn't anyone of the quality we all desire in the market. I remember when Aguero joined City, 5 minutes into his debut against Swansea and you knew City were going to win the league. What I would give for that kind of striker.

What do you mean am I okay? Bellerin needs to be sold and Debuchy is alright but not elite, need better.
