Probabaly but I still don't like to see Blind at CB or Memphis central.

I'd rather Jonstone than Romeo right now too.

Agreed. Surely Romero won't play if the likes of Rojo are excluded for not having trained enough yet.

We have 5 keepers in the squad, and the 'best' option for us is an academy graduate that has hardly any top level experience.

DDG - Wants away
Valdes - Been told to GTFO
Lindegaard - Been told he can leave on a free
Johnstone - Our most likely GK right now
Romero - Surely hasn't trained enough.

This DDG situation has been handled awfully. Truly abysmally. I'd tell Madrid to fluck off now and tell DDG he's going nowhere for another 12 months.

He's clearly got his head on a move back home and that's fair enough. But we shouldn't be on the eve of the new season with this happening. We should have given Madrid a dealine of mid July to complete the deal and then bought lloris.

Shambles if he leaves now. Absolutely clueless from our point of view.

I've always backed De Gea as he's been a brilliant player for us but from how it looks to the fans he's run down his contract, refused any extensions and now isn't mentally right to play and seems to want to leave. He really has let the club and fans down.

But at the same time the way we have gone about the situation this summer is beyond a joke. To put ourselves in this position when we have had weeks to sort it out is simply amateurish. And what makes it even more frustrating is that in Valdes we have a very good keeper but it seems LVG has fallen out with him like he has done so many times with players in the past.

I don't get why anyone is surprised by this news. LVG said weeks ago this situation was causing us / the player problems.

Mata should be central, no question.

No he didn't, he mentioned it after the PSG game last week, our last preseason friendly.

The issue seems to have developed in that time which is why we are in this position. But it is a situation we should have been better prepared.

So,it looks like we might panic buy again, this time concerning a GK.Never learn, especially when this whole scenario was staring us in the face.

We never make things easy for ourselves.

Utter shambles Genius. Shambles of highest order.

If he was dead set on leaving it should have been prior to the tour. Now the only party that gets done over is us.

We now have a keeper in Romero who hasn't even played a single minute for us so has no understanding whatsoever with the defence.

And we have Johnstone who has been at the club a long time but is a total rookie.

Shambles of the highest order. I'm actually pretty furious. Spurs will be licking their lips with glee today with a makeshift defence and novice keeper to face.

Is our style of play going to be that much different from last season with this side?
Seems like will be more of us having lots of possession in midfield but not doing much with it. And then having to bring on Fellaini.

Spurs are guff though

Just to confirm, I said Romero will play tomorrow but Johnstone equally could. What I mean is that Ddg wasn't gonna play.

I don't know what's worse. A kid in goal who is due to be sent to Preston on loan or a keeper who has been at the club for 3 minutes.

I've liked the look of Johnstone since I saw him in the youth team, think he won the cup with them, or went close.

Looked brilliant at that level anyway. I wouldn't be against him being given a shot.

Its certainly a step up for Johnstone who ,unsurprisingly, looked nervous, and at times rash, in the games he played on tour.
His composure skills need to be worked on alot if he's going to make it under LVG.

I do like Romero and think he might do well for us. I just think throwing him in tomorrow would be silly.

Didn't saf throw Taibi in goal against Liverpool at Anfield? Or was that just Silvestre

posted on 7/8/15

No,both Silvestre and Taibi played in the game.I think Taibi got MOTM.

Taibi sprang to mind too. Yeah I remember him playing that game and looking very dodgy but at the same time making a few important saves/punches and we won so it covered up his mistakes a bit. The real howler was 2 games later against Saints.

Are you staying over with him?

Romero is a lot more experienced to handle the pressure than Johnston though if its a case of being thrown in for the first game of the season, he did recently play in the WC final.

posted on 7/8/15

But he might not be able to communicate with any of his players which is a huge deal. He's probably still not met half the squad yet.
