Sakho

Talksport were saying that he would be available for the right place.

If he has a bad attitude I don't know, possibly after this early exist from a game last season... However he is one of our strongest CB's

Yeah the derby walkout did spring to mind. IF he does go then surely we can't just rely on Skrtel/Lovren/Toure for the whole season

We really only have 3 CBs competing for 2 places. Since the end of last season Lovren must have been mighty impressive in training and preseason to be able to bring himself back in from the cold. Considering he'd even dropped below Can in the CB pecking order, it's impressive to see him back in the team.

If Sakho is unhappy at his position he needs to fight for his place. having a good level of competition is healty. It'd be madness to let him go, unless there is a disruptive element

Said this a few times so sorry if already read/written but I'd have no problem playing Can at cb and I don't think BR would either. Plus it's Gomez preferred position and he looks a calm character. Skrtel and Lovren hardly ever being injured plus Sakho not even being in the squads makes me think he'll be off for anything around £12m+.

I recall that he publicly apologised unreservedly for the walk out and that all was well. We will never know what influence O'Driscoll and/or Gary Mac/the back room staff are having on Brendan's mind, but Sakho in not featuring. I hope he stays, I accept he looks at times clumsy when on the ball, but he is still a very good player, still better for me than Lovren who could/should have been red carded when laying out Diouf in the first game totally unnecessary.

Can should be nowhere near a CB in a 2.

I think he'd be okay.

In fact I bet it will happen this season.

What are you tryign tog et at with the 'influencing Brendan's mind" comment?

By simply typing something like that it looks like you are suggesting that Sakho is being marginalised and the manager is not in control of his own faculties.

Which would likely be nonsense.

Yeah i dont mind him looking clumsy because thats his posture, the only time i think he does himself no favours is when he wants to pass it but theres no option and he is quickly pressed so hes panics

Other than that, what happens if lovren or skrtel get injured/return to poor form, it would be quite silly to sell him

Well that's good enough for me Manfrom, I've everything totally wrong. Again, it seems. Well spotted. Maybe that's why Sakho has played in each of our two games this far.

No room for speculation as to why a player does or doesn't get picked here.

We've played 2 games and yes he wasn't in the squad but we are going to play over 50 games this season I'd say he will get plenty of game time.

I'd be shocked if he was sold, you need 3 top cb's and then back up like toure, doubt he will go.

If it does happen this season, then we'd have some serious injury issues. Can excelled in a three when he had the time on the ball to get forward and bring in out of defence. When he was isolated or when he had to actually defend in a situation that he would find himself in more and more in a 2, he looked poor.

Tbh I just that that was at the end of the season and his form did drop like a lot of others. I think he'd be fine if there was cover in front of him and at the moment there is.

I don't think he is a rb but I do think he could play cb proficiently.

Also before can was sold by bayern, pep was trying him out in defence in pre season

What the hell's your problem? I'm just asking you to clarify some vague statement you made.

Speculate all you want. If you want to plant the seed that suggests something other than performance issues as the reason Sakho's been dropped, then at least be able to reason out your argument.

He was forced to miss the final pre season game because of the birth of his kid.

Lovren got the nod and we have two clean sheets, despite looking a bit shaky. Injury and suspensions will play their parts so I think he will get plenty of game time.

When he gets in hopefully he will force BR to keep picking him.

We do have 6 players capable of playing CB though. Maybe Ilori could get a loan to a prem side, would love to see him get some game time under his belt.

But weird that he is not even in the match day squads and some bids are coming in for him though isn't it.

Really? You are here for 'bites' and not discussion? You know how infantile that makes you seem?

Anyway, not going to clutter up this thread with this nonsense.....

I wouldn't want to see Can as part of a back 2

The non inclusion in the squad is indeed the curious part here. Certainly for any club out there looking for a CB its a perceived opportunity. Glad to see that Roma never got their hands on him for whatever reason.

I wouldn't like to see Can permanently playing CB but I think he'd be fine if the need came due to injuries.

Can was only ever played at CB in a 3 for his passing and composure on the ball and also for his ability to bring the ball out. When it came to actually defending he was quite poor, often getting beat in the air and in 1v1's because he doesn't really have the agility or balance to stop a tricky, speedy winger. Opposition managers would usually take advantage of this because Can wouldn't get much protection from the WB because the WB would usually be an attacking one, this was the main undoing of the 3421 imo
