Becchio - as proven here, will always divide opinion. He was the cause of attacks breaking down, he did tend to go for the dying fly option and fall over too easy from time to time. He wasn't the best we've ever had in front of goal. On balance, and in terms of ability, I think Liw recalls him well. Not sure whether I applauded him more, or buried my head in my hands at another broken down attack.
But he delivered on commitment, and 19 goals by the winter break was a great return by any standards at that time.
Entrenched opinions are on both sides of the divide. He's gone back to Argentina and all I can say is good luck to the guy - I've nothing but good wishes for him. Tried his best I always got the impression - he just wasn't a Messi, Ronaldo or Danny Ings even!! He was limited, but then we brought him in when we were in L1 if memory serves me right. He did okay for us..................
LIW, I've asked you to say how many pens he scored!..
You know what stinks about your argument and pens, is you backed Ross, but you could check that as well, I'd think he missed more than Becchio scored!..
So, taking away the ones that Becchio scored, he would have still scored more goals than the three behind him his last "half" season with us!..
Lorimer, I once commented on our all time top scorer not being a striker!..
Holy crap, he was our penalty taker, I wonder how many his total included, and I wonder how many titles we would have lost if he hadn't scored them!..
Those "19" that Becchio scored, funny, without them we'd more than likely have been relagated!..
Here's the funniest bit about that one though, people like you, Shaun and a few others would have blamed him for not scoring enough!..
How many goals did our much improved team score last season?..
He had in that half what our top scorer had in a whole, but hey, we know, that was the fault of Redder's!..
The pens argument holds no water, because,(I've never checked or thought about it!)but I think most teams main striker's takes them!..
A reason why some of them have a higher tally than they deserve!.
"but then we brought him in when we were in L1 if memory serves me right. He did okay for us"
Yep, but the 19 were in the Championship, so makes him better!..
"Entrenched opinions are on both sides of the divide. He's gone back to Argentina and all I can say is good luck to the guy - I've nothing but good wishes for him"
VOF!......
germany
Ross was/is a miles better footballer.
The end
Becchio was always my favourite player. His transfer to Norwich was one of the worst transfers ever done by this club. As was said earlier, if he hadn't have scored his 19 goals we would have been relegated that season. I would have loved him back here as he had, and still has, a special love for this club. Only the other day he apparently tweeted he was pleased about our win at Derby. I will always blame Warnock for bad-mouthing Becchio and making him want to go elsewhere.
LIW, the end is, Becchio was put where Ross was supposed to be, oh, and Ross sulked about it!..
The real end is, he scored goals, he was there to do that, and he did it well!..
How many points will Leeds have lost with his so called "break downs" that you added to the argument?..
How many points will Leeds have gained with his goals?..
How close will we have come to being relegated if he'd been allowed to take his goals with him when leaving?..
Could have been relegated, but hey, that wouldn't have bothered to many around here!..
The end sounds like there's nothing left to argue about, Ross I've never argued against, I said when Becchio and he were together that Becchio scored more, now if you want to blame Becchio for that ok, do it, I'd say that was the managers fault, he should have dropped Becchio and seen "if" it'd been better!..
Maybe, maybe not!..
He did what he was there to do!..
I cant see what the problem is!..
As was said earlier, if he hadn't have scored his 19 goals we would have been relegated that season
--------------------
We ended up 13th and he went in jan, so not sure how anyone can say that.
You on the rag today Liw ?!?!?!?!?
You arguing with that thing in the mirror as well?!?!?!?
Just don't like seeing people write bull.
A lot of love on this thread, Becchio divides opinion but one thing is for sure, Germany is clearly his agent.
Giles scored penalties, Ronaldo scores penalties, Clarke scored penalties, Messi scores penalties..!
It's part of the game.
They probably have or had nothing about them either...?

As usual, avoid the main context of the last post, by trying to be word-wise clever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What? Since when was Wakey wordwise? FFS! lol
Becchio was like Chapman to me - complete donkey but knew where the net was. On the floor more times than a WWE wrestler, trapped the ball farther than he could kick it, and passed the ball as accurately as my dead grandma, but get the right ball to him in and around the box and everyone sat up. With some players they don;t need to be world beaters in other aspects of their game.
Take Viduka as an example. He could be a world-beater. But only when he could be bothered. Most of the time he strolled about and did sweet FA to help the team out in getting the ball back, and then bang, he sniffs he has a chance and he's all guns blazing.
Becchio had heart. Bags of it. And an eye for goal. I really hope he secured his future with that Norwich move, and I really hope he settles back into Argentina well - he hasn't been there for a long while.
Adios Luciano.
Eric
But they also gave a great deal to the team.
Becchio didnt in the latter of his Leeds career.
Sorry if that upsets you, but it was hard to watch, which you choose not too, so not sure how you can comment.
Chapman, won plenty of headers, becchio didn't.
And chapman was never has bad has made out with the ball
Only if wordwise is latin for illiterate LST
Becchio joined in Summer of 2008.
In 2008-09 he scored 19.
In 2009-10, he scored 17, despite being out injured for two months and subsequently nearly dying by swallowing his tongue
In 2010-11, he scored 20, was injured twice, with a hamstring pull meaning he missed the end of the season
In 2011-12, he scored 11 despite missing pre-season and the first month of the season due to a recurrence of his hamstring injury
In 2012-13, he scored 19 by the end of January, when he left for Norwich.
All in all, he entered the top 10 goalscorers of all time for LUFC in 5 seasons despite suffering injuries practically every season. And many of those were headers.
He also set up a lot of goals for others, especially when he and Beckford played together.
Every player has their strengths and weaknesses. Becchio was no exception, but highlighting his weaknesses over what he brought to us is infantile. IMHO.
But the Barnacle don't rate him LST...!
You providing stats like that just proves that Becchio couldn't trap a ball or run down the channels or have anything about him to appease our very own self proclaimed expert on all things football.
Button Mushroom keeps harping on about other people not going to games and being unable to comment (in his warped view) yet he went to every game and missed all the evidence you've just provided...!
Priceless.
Should has gone to spec savers !!

Eric
Goals aren't just what a player is judged on
Like I keeping saying his all round game the last two years were down hill.
And seeing has he hardly played a game since then, indicates he was in decline.
You wouldn't know how he was playing, you wasn't watching him every week.
Don't want to appear to be picky, but Becchio isn't in our list of top 10 goalscorers - I think he's 11th on the list.
If memory serves, he appears at number 10 only if you limit it to League goals.
Personally, I agree with VOF, thought he aways gave 100%, irrespective of his faults - and boy, could that lad fall to the ground! - and was always happy to see him on the teamsheet. Not sure why it's thought his tail's between his legs, he's in his 30's, why not head back to his own country?
Good luck to him.
Mike, if I'm his agent, I'd love to know where my money is!.
It don't matter to much who says he could or couldn't do whatever, people see him for what he was, and I see him as a x-player that did his job for us and did it well!..
LIW, he has a record for us that puts pain to your argument, he did what he was told to do, and history will never change that!..
Has to be a wind up, surely?

12 goals at this moment in time!..
To tell the truth, I've been peeping on the Leeds site wondering where they'd stuck him!..
Bolton!..
Fulham!..
MK Dons!..
Bristol City!..
A third off our goals have come from the spot, that's 4 from 12, and some think we're doing well!.
I suppose we could add the ones from the penalty shootout and call it half!.
I knew you'd pop up on here, Ger.
Sol, I've just signed in, was looking but wouldn't have seen this if I hadn't signed in!.
Thing is, I was going to start a thread about our Pens, but this made that a bit off a dumb idea!.
Cheers Sol!.
