Rodgers wanted Miki, Willian, Costa and Sanchez.

I suspect we would be a better squad with them in it.

This

Only Sanchez was following luis departure too..

you think Suarez + Sterling would have left had we bought in those other players?

or even just two of them!!

Unfortunately this is the only part where i appear to agree with the wrist slitters, is rodgers lack of star name appeal

Yep. We would be challenging and most certainly a top 4 regular if Rafa had the finances Rodgers has been given. As i said at the time when some clueless fans called for his sacking, be careful what u wish for. Look at us now! We are a shambles

So bad you posted it twice?

You don't think the £173,000,000 and the significantly higher wage structure Rafa spent in his first four seasons is good backing?

posted on 4/9/15

Not so sure about that Robbing. We almost went bankrupt in 2009 whereas now TV and commercial revenues are higher than ever before.

The only thing that really matters though is that we were more successful on the pitch, at least initially, under Rafa. I certainly don't want him back or Rodgers to leave now but a Champions League, FA cup and the odd supercup/charity shield etc. is more than Rodgers has won in his first three years.

There is no doubt that in his final two summers Rafa was hamstrung and as a result we dropped down the league but it is a fact/phackt that Rafa spent £173,000,000 in his first four seasons and we paid awesome wages then (Maxi on £90k anyone?).

To say Rafa didn't get backing is daft. He really really did. That's how he signed over 50 players.

I'd say (relative to other clubs) Rafa and Rodgers have had similar funding.

Rodgers doesn't seem to get forced to second / third choices by the owners like Rafa did though.

Rafa didn't have to deal with losing his best players nearly every year either.

very different situations.

No not at all considering we were No1 in Europe. Rafa was financing his spend thru CL qualification. Rafa was also never allowed sign who he wanted like Alves and Silva. Plus we had free spending Chelsea and Fergie/united to deal with. Everton were very strong too..better outfit than the current United side for example. Not to mention Rafa was a PROVEN winner and top players wanted to play for him

posted on 4/9/15

Yes yes but you are saying £173,000,000 in four years is not backing. Is that what you're saying?

Because if you are....

Maxi who was better than Lallana, Markovic, Ibe, Can where do i stop?

No-ones pretending H&G were good owners. They took £2,000,000 in one season for travel costs ffs.

But Rodgers is in his fourth season no?

Rafa spent £173,000,000 and had a significant wage structure in his first four years.

This isn't open to debate.

"We almost went bankrupt in 2009"

that's a technicality really

Liverpool Football Club didn't almost go bankrupt due to spending or operating model

the people who owned LFC almost went bankrupt from personal debts and almost dragged the club down with them because their personal debts were linked to the club

Robbing, I'm not saying that Rafa didn't get backing - just that I think he spent better than Rodgers has done so far (granted the jury is still out on a lot of our recent signings). This is evidenced by what we won in Rafa's early years.

TKT, you are correct. My point was just that towards the end of H+G we were certainly not as free spending as we were when they first turned up and paid for Torres and Babel nor as free spending as we are now.

H&G destroyed he club with sell more than you buy transfers.

Their last couple of years set us back half a decade and is why we're a selling club outside the top4.

They can rot in hell.

posted on 4/9/15

We were always going to be more vulnerable to dropping out of the top 4 with the emergence of City but had we had sensible ownership instead of H&G it could well have been Arsenal (due to funding the stadium) or United (due to Fergie retiring) finding themselves in our position now.

Mind you, if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle and all that...

If administration and bankrupt are semantically similar enough, then yes.

pretty sure it was 2010 though
