in all truth lads jelavic is a top class striker, can score all sorts of goals,he looks to have lost interest at ibrox, the european exits might have knocked the stuffing out of him,he would be a massive hit in the championship.

Maynard has to have fallen through now! Unless we are trying to twist bristols arm by bidding elsewhere!

My thoughts are that Sven has lost the plot.

Celtic fan here guys.
Jelavic is a quality player. He'd be a massive hit in the championship, especially in a good side.

£6.5million seems an awful lot for a championship team to be bidding (yes, i know you have lots of money available)

Rumours that Rangers have knocked back a bid of £7.5million from a Russian club.

Not sure Rangers would be knocking back that type of money unless they know something that us in the public don't.

They probably realise Sven is getting desperate with under 30 hours to go!

I'd sooner loan in a good quality striker and wait til january rather than start throwing 6 million at every half decent striker we can think

Looks like the Maynard deal has finally bitten the dust.

I would have misgivings about a player from the SPL - No offence guys but Kris Boyd struggled at Boro.

The Championship doesn't necessarily have the skill levels of the Premiership but every game is hard and very few players seem to find the space afforded North of the border.

Having said that, if Alan Young says he is good enough then that is good enough for me. But don't think we would go to £7m plus.

Kris Boyd plays in Turkey, does he not?

Take this from a Celtic fan mate. Jelavic is quality.

He can score every type of goal. He's strong, good in the air, skillful, hits a cracking set peice and he's a very intelligent player.

He is a bit slow though. If he had pace he's be at a top 10 premiership team. No doubt.

Kris Boyd is a 6 yard box poacher. Jelavic is so much more.
Trust me, there is a world between them.

I'd rather us offer 4 mill for the yak!! We seem so desperate! 4thofficial reckons we are bidding left right and centre for a striker! Crazy times. One thing for sure is Bristol have balls! The guy could walk out for jack in 10 months

I very much doubt that Sven is looking to throw "6 million at every half decent striker (h)e can think of."

On the contrary, I am encouraged by this evidence that he at least is not sitting around nibbling Abbey Crunch and waiting for a 'phone call from Bristol.

If you look at Kris Boyd's record in Scotland, it's usually something like 25 goals in 45 games. With Jelavic, it's more like 20 in 25 so I think he'd have a fair chance of succeeding in the Championship. Also the lack of European football might persuade him to leave Rangers. He recently said that Rangers isn't the same without European football. But the only way I can see him leaving is if he hands in a transfer request because I doubt we'll go back with a bigger bid. Mind you, I seem to remember he went on strike at Rapid Vienna to get his move to Rangers.

I also don't think this means an end to the Maynard move. Remember we bid for Andy Johnson at the same time as Nicky and I think this is just to ensure Bristol don't leave us waiting 'til the 11th hour before rejectig our bid and leaving us with nowhere to go. It might also be a ploy to hurry Bristol up with their descision and show them we have other options as well as maynard.

No disrespect to Leicester, but Jelavic is far too good a player for the Championship.
He's the best player on Rangers books, and in reality is probably too good for us too...

I love the passing of judgement by people who have never even seen him play though.
Boyd is a one-dimensional poacher, who joined a team with no wingers and no service. Every Rangers fan could have predicted how that move would turn out...

Jelavic is infinitely better, and I will personally be raging if Rangers sell to a Championship club, and Jelavic decides to move, no matter what the bid.

Also, it seems you've forgotten Adam, Iwelumo, McCormack, Hoolahan, Scotland....there are literally dozens of players who have made it in the championship from the SPL, despite failing to even make a ripple in the SPL, so stop thinking there's some sort of massive gulf. There isn't.

Ask Neil Danns how good the SPL is?

Rangers or Leicester?

He didn't batter an eyelid

SPL

'Looks like the Maynard deal has finally bitten the dust.'

No, we are making these random bids to 'force Bristol's hand'.

Sounds a silly concept to me, don't see why it would work, but that is the case.

You are right there isn't a massive gulf between the two leagues. Rangers would probably finish top 6.

As a Gers fan I have to say Jelavic is far too good for the SPL. Head and shoulders above everyone else in it. If he had a bit more pace he would easily be one of the top ten strikers in europe.

Bar pace he has it all and it shows. As for his goal recored which cant be faulted he would have bags more with a few more decent players round him as bar Davis and Naismith we have no one else of real quality to supply him.

Wont be happy if he goes this season as frankly we will be fu#ked

posted on 30/8/11

I'm hoping we up our bid considering what I'm reading from the gers fans. Sounds as though he could bag a fair few goals for us with all the chances we can create.

'Rangers would probably finish top 6'

Yeah

Queen's Park Rangers maybe.

Better keep an eye out for them then

Reading about him and from what our Scottish friends are saying he sounds quality.

As it seems the Maynard deal is dead, why not offer Rangers £8million and see what happens.Ok i know this is a lot of money, but if he really is as good as people are saying and he is the piece of the jigsaw we are missing to get us into the Premiership and the owners are willing to pay the fee then why not go for it.
